Lil Boosie

Lil Boosie is a free man. The Baton Rouge rapper was released from the Louisiana State Penitentiary on Wednesday night.

The “Wipe Me Down” hitmaker, born Torrence Hatch, was released at 7:10 p.m., reports Baton Rouge’s WAFB. He was taken to a sheriff’s department facility where family members were waiting for him.

Boosie was released ahead of his official May 20 date. He had been serving prison time for a drug conviction in 2009. While in prison, he plead guilty to attempting to smuggle drugs, adding eight years to his sentence.

In 2012, the 31-year-old MC went on trial for first-degree murder. He was accused of hiring a man to kill local rap artist Terry Boyd, but was found not guilty. He will remain on parole until 2018.

Fans had called for his release, taking to social media with the “Free Boosie” movement.

Upon his return, he posted a video of his daughter celebrating his release.

His peers also took to Twitter to welcome him home. “Salute #boosie #blessup!” tweeted DJ Khaled, while Rico Love added, “Boosie is free! Booking agents are doing praise dances nation wide!”

On March 10, Boosie is scheduled to speak at an event organized by Trill Entertainment and Atlantic Records in New Orleans.
