Remy Ma Reconciles with Fat Joe, Reveals Post-Prison Plans

Remy Ma

Get ready for the return of Remy. In July, the Bronx rapper will be released from prison after serving a six-year sentence for assault, and she plans to make up for lost time.

“I have a new outlook on a lot of things. I’m ready to see the world with these new pair of eyes of mine,” Big Pun’s 33-year-old protégée told Billboard. “Everyone says I’m not missing anything but I think they’re just saying that so I don’t feel bad. I’m excited to get back into the game and make it a little bit more interesting.”

The former Terror Squad member, whose debut album There’s Something About Remy was released in 2006, has also reconciled with Fat Joe.

“I just recently spoke to him and we had a wonderful conversation,” she said. “He said, ‘I still think you’re the dopest female rapper ever.’ I’m like, ‘Really?!’ When you put egos and pride aside, and be the real people that you are it works out… I told him that when I do go home I’m going to make it my business that we talk more.”

While she’s been receiving offers to do a reality show, music remains her priority. She has written “20 books or so of songs” while serving time at Bedford Hills Correctional Facility for Women in New York.

“I want people to know that Rem is still Rem,” she said. “There’s a history of artists that go to jail and when they get home they’re not all that or even do anything. I’m not falling into that category. … I want to come home and make an impact. I feel like my time was cut short and I didn’t get to blossom where I wanted to be in my career.”

She hopes to work with Rico Love, DJ Mustard, Rick Ross, and Meek Mill. “He’s one of my favorites right now. I love everything he puts out,” she said of the Philly rapper. “I fuck with French [Montana]. I like Nicki [Minaj]. She’s been doing her thing. I like that YG kid, a lot.”

She also plans to take some time to enjoy life. “I’m going to get my hair done. I’m going to get my nails done,” said the self-described “girly girl,” who married Papoose while behind bars. “After I get dolled up and lay down some records and my voice is out, I want to get away and get my back blown out for like a week. Mess up the hair and make-up that I got done. I have been in prison for a while.”

@Oh, Nicki doesn’t exist in that space anymore where she can be put against other female rappers. She’s going for the Jay Z’s , Diddy’s and the Beyoncé’s.

Whoever said “all we need is Nicky, Remy and Foxy” please have a damn seat, NO ONE needs Foxy!! She is washed up and played tf out, no one is interested!! I’d buy an MC Lyte, Quuen Latifah (rap album) and Da Brat Album before I’d buy a Foxy or Kim album!

Um…. I can tell these comments come from a bunch of kiddie whipper snappers who no nothing about REAL RAP MUSIC.(Thank goodness I was born in an era when music was real and you could decipher realness from bullshit) Remy is real rap. Period. As for Nicki GAR BAGE, well, let’s just say that addresses the elephant in the room…

    [Reply]

    Andy Reply:

@naturesflaw, nobody cares anymore about your oldass “real rap music”.

@Andy, Be gone boo. I’ll just take that as you don’t know any better. I bid you good day :)

    [Reply]

    Andy Reply:

@naturesflaw, rap is not considered music by many. Sorry, you don’t know better. Immediately I hear that same comment of “old is better” I always think of lifeless young hipsters or immature elders. Music has evolved. Its changing, it changed and it will change. Simple. Record that in your tiny brain and move on.

    [Reply]

    Oh Reply:

@Andy, We have a few great of quality artist this day and age but Nicki Minaj is not one of them, stop making excuses as to why music these days is so “basic, repetitive, and unoriginal”

@ Andy stfu little disrespectful ass punk all in your feelings about nicki wack ass. That’s why your generation is going str8 to hell with that str8 trash u call music. @ naturesflaw I know exactly how you feel lol what year were you born?

    naturesflaw Reply:

@live, it’s not that serious calm down lol it’s his opinion so, whatever. Good look though. To answer your question ima 80′s baby!

    [Reply]

    Andy Reply:

@live, why my generation should hear old music? It doesn’t make sense, music purpose is of entertainment, not education. That “old is better” card is so played by y’all… don’t have anything better to say. When rap came, it was considered “noise”. When rock came (before rap) it was considered noise too. GTFO, in 10 years hoes be calling JB and Miley music “classics” and “real music”. Is the same over and over again. And don’t send me to hell, lol who the fck you think you are? Comments like those are not liked by the Lord.

    [Reply]

    Andy Reply:

@live, and, the fck is wrong with you, bipolar biitch?? “Disrespectful”, exactly how naturesflaw was: “bunch of kiddie whipper snappers who [know] nothing about REAL RAP MUSIC”. I’m defending myself. Just because you are such a pusssy in real life and can’t do it, don’t scold me for doing so.

WOW IT’S BEEN 6 YEARS? I’m so proud and excited for Rem. It seems like she’s really matured in prison and is about to come out a much stronger woman than when she went in. There’s something about Remy is STILL in my top 5 female rap debut releases, and who can forget that infamous verse she did on Lean Back.
