New Music: Drake – ‘Draft Day’

Drake

Fresh off his European tour, Drake does it for his city, his fans, and his girl on “Draft Day.” The five-minute track, produced by Boi-1da and The Fans, samples Lauryn Hill’s 1998 hit “Doo-Wop (That Thing).”

While he doesn’t respond to Jay Z’s “We Made It” diss, he does shout out Jennifer Lawrence (“You could really get it”), Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel, and Chance the Rapper.

“If I left this shit to chance, I would’ve picked a name like Chance the Rapper / No offense ’cause I don’t know that ni**a,” he raps.

He also throws in some subliminals. “How the game turn into the Drake show? / Dawg, what the fuck happened to so and so? / Where did they go? / Too worried about bitches and fashion, they go missin’ in action.”

He even was kind enough to leave some beat at the end “so that all of you fuck ni**as could loop it and get your lives off.”

@Liz, I really respect the consistency of output on Drake’s part. Haven’t listened, but I like that the pot is being kept at a nice stir.

This song has a lot going on. And why is he shouting out Jennifer Lawrence and not Rihanna? And all the samples these days are getting ridiculous, just let the song be great and make some new suit.
    I guess -_-

Drake has a finally grow some balls; and now all he has to do is respond back to 1st. Kendrick Lamar’s verse on Control; 2nd respond back to Jay-Z on the 2nd remix of “We Made It”. The song was good though.

@K3, why everyone asking Drake to respond to Kendrick when so many of the rappers mentioned didnt.. He said what his opinion was about it (which I didnt like btw) but and kept it moving.

    flawda Reply:

@gold, Because he is the only one who caught feelings not to mention K Dot got in his ass at the BET Cypher.

@gold, this is hip hop don’t you understand?? Go listen to pop music.

@richard, I like Drake however he has female tendencies. First of all, he talked a lot of shit during his Rolling Stone interview. He had something to say about Macklamore, Kendrick, Kanye AND Jay Z. So don’t get mad and whine like a little bitch when one of the GOATs shouts you out in a song “Miss. Drizzy”! Has Jay delivered some less than stellar rhymes lately? Some would say yes but let’s not get it twisted he is still a legend w/ 12 #1 albums w/ at least 3 hailed as classics. And how are you going to clap back when you opened your mouth first? #byefelicia

He subtly responds to the diss.. ‘Watch my paint flow/we all do it for the art so I could never hate though’ the Jay-Z diss came after Drake said him rapping about subjects like buying expensive art was corny.
