Mariah Carey

Mariah Carey is practicing the art of surprise for her next album. The pop diva has decided to take the Beyoncé approach and keep the title and release date under wraps until it drops.

In the latest issue of Billboard, Mariah opens up about her 14th album, which was originally due May 6.

She will reveal the title, tracklisting, artwork, and music all at once via undisclosed digital partners. A physical release is expected the following week.

“I have to be the one that announces this, especially the title,” Mariah told the magazine.

She did, however, say that it was inspired by a “personal possession of mine that’s part of an entity that I’ve had almost all my life.”

Expect big ballads and uptempo bangers courtesy of hitmakers Jermaine Dupri, Rodney Jerkins, Hit-Boy, and Mike WiLL Made It, plus features from Wale, Nas, Trey Songz, and “a special guest star that I’m not allowed to reveal.”

Her twins Moroccan and Monroe are also featured on a song called “Supernatural.”

“You would think I would be all about the singles-driven situation, and I am in a way, but with this particular album I want my fans to hear it as a body of work,” said Mariah, whose single “You’re Mine (Eternal)” debuted in February. “This is my life since we last left off. Just picture a dot dot dot, and then here’s the album.”
