@2bad2bme, You’re just mad because you’re afraid Mariah will succeed with this album. Believe it or not, it’s actually good. Your Beyoncé is no god, and Mariah knows how to put Bey in her place with this album, because she’s been in this business when Beyoncé wasn’t even famous. Listen and let yourself learn from the Mistress.

I was hesitant about the album when it got pushed back. There is no doubt that this is her best work in years. Just as she wanted, an album that flows from start to finish. Her remake of George Michael’s One More Try is a fav of mine and I could def listen to this album on repeat.

This CD was kinda boring…a LOT of people are saying it’s her best, but I can’t agree. It’s full of church-like songs, and over singing ballads. It was just all over the place. I think E=Mc2 or Memoirs were way better! Sorry Mimi…the only songs I’m excited about are the remixes on the deluxe.

This is WHY it was pushed back again and again and it is such a beautiful piece of work.

    1) Cry: The setup on the song reminds me of Vision of Love…Her voice is simply amazing.
“I want to hold you until we both breakdown and cry…” Amazing.

2)Faded: I love the speak-easy lyrical verses on this track. It really feels like she is truly speaking about someone.

    3) Dedicated: This is my favorite new go-to track for Mariah. There is something about this song. I love her voice on this song. Nas still has it.

4)#Beautiful: This truly sounds like the first part of the album and this is really a great different sound for The Voice

5)Thirsty: True Hip-Hop Club Banger. This makes you want to get the highest heels you have and be ratchet at hell!!! “You used to be all about we. Now you are all about celebrity. The Best Thing that your A$$ was me” #bosstrack

6)Make It Look Good: I love this hypnotic beat that plays with Mariah’s voice. Is that Steve Wonder on the harmonica?? (I heard he worked on the album at some point) Love this “this is my man” song. “You make it look good. fingertips on my hips”. Love the throwback vibe that has a current feeling to it. Love the whistle register at the end. Definatley written about her and Nick and #Theirlovestory

7)You’re Mine (Eternal): I love this song. You can really feel the pain in her voice and it is very relate-able. I am glad to see that some of her work with Trey Songz make it out of the vault. (Ahhemm their Duet of Inseparable from AMOAIA was AMAZING DAHHHLINGGGS!)I can see why she fought so hard for it to be a single when promoting the album.

8)You Just Don’t Know What To Do Ft. Wale:
Summer Jam of 2014 Blast it out your car all long…Enough Said.

    9)Supernatural Ft. ‘Dem Babies’:
This is such a beautiful tribute to ‘dem babies’. It reminds of of what Stevie Wonder did for his daughter ‘Isn’t She Lovely’ (Remember the last 1 minute of the album when she is in the bath tub???). It brings me to tears you can really hear how much love she has her babies, like any mother. “You made all of my tears dissipate. Our love is Supernatural.”

10)Meteorite: “Andy Warhol said everyone will be famous…. for 15 minutes” is how the song starts. It is just a upbeat, ‘Make It Happen’ take on the EDM dance tune. This song screams for dance remix Dahhhhling. “You got the night like a meteorite, you got the eye of everyone light up the night” The soothing synthesizer on her voice on “Meteorite” is intoxicating #Turnupalltheway

11)Camouflage: Mariah & Piano =Bliss. This song tells a story of a broken heart. A sadder version deconstructed of Breakdown, with a bridge of Butterfly. “I camouflage my tears. I need to know that you still love me.” Bonus: The choir behind her…EPIC. This song will be a tour classic when she goes on tour.

    12) Money…Ft Fabolous…Umm I did not hear this track from the iTunes first listen. That is kind of confusing. What Happened iTunes??!?!?!? :(

13)One More Try: This is amazing ballad. “I don’t want to learn to hold you or touch you or think that you are mine, because there ain’t no joy….”

14)Heavenly (No Ways Tired/Can’t Give Up Now)
This is a remake of Mary Mary’s Can’t Give Up Now. This is a great song. “I just can’t give up now I’ve come too far from where I started from. Nobody told me the road would be easy
And I don’t believe he brought me this far to leave me.

15)Me.I Am Mariah: This is from the YouTube video.

Beyond incredible. Similar sounds to music box, daydream, and butterfly (cry), – yet with an atmospheric and modern touch (similar to MOAIA). Meteorite is very different for Mimi, but still manages to come off authentic and sincere (not to mention it’s quite a dope record). Supernatural is one of my top favorites; emotional, vulnerable, and just plain beautiful. It’s clear the amount of work that went into this album was tireless, and it’s clear it’s Mariah’s favorite. People need to hear this music!!!!

This album is exactly what Mariah said it would be, “an amazing body of work.” It’s clear this one is for the lambs as she gives us exactly what we’ve been asking for: classic Mariah. From the brilliant songwriting, to the stellar production and arrangements to Mariah’s vocals. Everything is on point. From start to finish this album is cohesive and flows effortlessly while not taking away from the obvious hard work that went into making this album. Definitely work the wait.

I like the ballads and the up lifting songs. Not feeling that much pieces like Thirsty or Faded. Mariah should record a whole soul/spiritual album. Pop is for Rihannas and Mileys.

Also: I don’t like the digital treatment of her voice in songs such as Camouflage. It would be perfect without pro tools.

    Over all: 68/100

    [Reply]

  45. Tmaiteem

It’s so quite in here now. Where those haters at now? Oh I see. Now that Mariah put out a classic bomb ass album no haters want to flood her post? Smh. Talent always shut these fools up. Mariah didn’t have to do this. She put out this amazing cd. These females needs to chase after her quality of music. Not so much her voice and looks. Anybody can look good or train to sing like or better then Mariah. But what they can’t do is compete with her artistry and music style. Who has put out a great full body of work like this lately ? Which one of those females y’all keep comparing to Mariah? Rihanna album ? Adriana album ? Jlo ? Katy Perry? Nicki( lol) that one wAs for fun. Lol. Nicki ??? I love Beyonce but her album can’t even compare to this one. Sorry y’all. Mariah is the best and Queen first. Just brace it. Stop being mad.

    [Reply]

    KGreen Reply:

@queenMariah, I like Beyonce’s album but it’s not on the level of Mariah’s new album. Not even close. Beyonce is a producer driven star while Mariah is an actual creative talent. She has a style and no matter who she works with, it’s gonna be a Mariah Carey song. You hear her all through it. Beyonce’s album is good, but those songs are something anyone could have song. It’s too segmented and it’s always obvious who the producer was because it sounds like them, not Beyonce.

Both albums were good, but Mariah is just on a different level as far as artistry is concerned.

I listened to this album a couple of times last night and I was blown away. The vocals are amazing, and I love the production. The songs that really stood out to me are “Supernatural”, “You Don’t Know What To Do”, “Heavenly, and “Thirsty”. For some reason I wasn’t really feeling “Make it Look Good” but maybe it will grow on me. I don’t know if this album is as good as “Butterfly” and “Daydream”, but I do know it is much better than “Memoirs” and “E=M2″.

This is a really solid effort from Mariah. Great writing and vocals. She proves that she remains untouched although she is not appreciated as much as she should be.

Not even close. We all know now Mariah will never be able to sing any of her songs live anymore, so the overly produced vocals on this album are for????

The album is very all over the place and it it is not cohesive. She spent 4 years working on this? Wow. I am disappointed at this garbage…but oh well

I prefer Mariah over Beyonce any day of the week, but to say Mariah’s putting Bee in her place is a HUGE overstatement as we all know Mariah won’t sing a single climax of any of these new songs live. And it’s pretty evident that she’s had studio advancements to help her through those strained belts as she can never replicate them live. As for the material, well it’s all pretty bland. It’s debut will be it’s biggest selling, this is not going to be the huge comeback she and her fans had hoped for as – besides the huge decline in her voice – the material just ain’t that good. The best songs (which imo is Beautiful and You’re Mine) have already been released, and if they didn’t set the charts alight, none of the others will; they’re too bland. And I really hope Mariah gets exposed for the fraud she is if she continues miming all her songs. So over her.

    [Reply]

    Derek Reply:

@Paa, I agree its no Beyonce production but I think the vast majority will agree this a a great step up since her last 2 albums. At this point it is what it is. She’s an amazing singer. She’s not a performer. That octave we all want her to hit live is just not there anymore. Hell if she hit that octave everytime she performed she’d be like Adele…requiring throat surgery. The miming though…thats not cool.
