The ladies of Love Dollhouse are ready to take on the world. As the first act signed to Russell Simmons and Steve Rifkind’s label All Def Music, the teen trio—comprised of Chelsea, Ryan, and Jasmine—recently dropped their summertime single “Can I” and is readying their debut album with help from Claude Kelly, The Stereotypes, and Kadis & Sean.
Rap-Up TV caught up with the Detroit natives during a recent trip to L.A., where they dished on their music, inspirations, and dream collaborations.
“‘Can I’ is basically putting a girl in a guy’s perspective,” said Ryan of the group’s Claude Kelly-penned single. “They’re taking control of the relationship. It’s so fun. It’s funky, it’s groovy, it makes you dance.”
While they’ve been inspired by everyone from Aaliyah to Prince, the girls have drawn comparisons to R&B groups like Destiny’s Child and TLC.
“We definitely look up to TLC,” said Ryan. “We have no problem with us being compared to them. We still wanna make our own stamp, of course.”
They also shared their dream collaborations—Jasmine would love to work with Missy Elliott, Chelsea hopes to snag Snoop Dogg, and Ryan is an Ariana Grande fan.
When they’re not in the studio, you can find the shopping addicts at the mall or the local amusement park.
