Beyoncé Remembers Michael Jackson on 5-Year Death Anniversary

Michael Jackson and Beyoncé

Five years ago, the world lost one of the greatest entertainers of all time. But Michael Jackson’s legacy lives on through superstars including Beyoncé, who paid tribute to her idol in a short and sweet note on her website.

Bey recalls listening to MJ while growing up and learning “soul” and “swag” from the seasoned performer.

“Michael Jackson changed me, and helped me to become the artist I am thank you Michael,” she wrote.

Read her heartfelt tribute to the King of Pop.

When I was just starting out, my first producer used to make me listen to Michael Jackson’s live performance of “Who’s Loving You.” He would have me watch that for hours back to back to back.

What he wanted me to learn was his soul. You could hear his soul. And he was this little kid who hadn’t experienced love but he was a vessel. For whatever reason he could evoke more emotion than an adult. It was so raw and so pure. It was these little things that he did that were just swag. It’s something that’s God given.

Michael taught me that sometimes you have to forget technique, forget what you have on. If you feel silly, you have to go from the gut just let it go.

Michael Jackson changed me, and helped me to become the artist I am thank you Michael.

Love always,
B

I love this. Such a beautiful tribute to a legend. To me she is one of the only artists that’s even close to being in his league.

I am listening to his album “BAD” as I type this…I’ll never forget that day! I can’t believe it has been 5 years! R.I.P. His legacy will live on forever. As far as Beyoncé, I would have to agree with the comment above. She is one of the few Pop/R&B artists who can consistently deliver a great live show and is constantly challenging herself in ways that Michael Jackson did.

Lol, this is old. I read this exact quote before a few years ago. But it’s nice that Bey paid tribute to MJ. He really is one of her musical heroes and she channels his WORK ETHIC at his peak. R.I.P MJ.

Beyonce is one of the handful of artists of now that I respect like I do MJ. God bless Bey & rest in peace to the King of Pop.
