A$AP Ferg on Ariana Grande: ‘She’s the Next Mariah Carey’

A$AP Ferg and Ariana Grande

Is Ariana Grande the heir to Mariah Carey’s pop diva throne? According to A$AP Ferg, the “Break Free” singer is following in Mimi’s famous stilettos.

“She’s the next Mariah Carey. She’s dope,” the A$AP Mob member told MTV News. “And that’s not an understatement, or an overstatement—I just see her as that next big voice that’s gonna pop.”

Ferg has collaborated with Ariana on a song called “Hands on Me” for her sophomore album My Everything, due August 25.

But the unexpected pairing shouldn’t come as a surprise. “It’s not really strange because I do a lot of festivals, like Coachella, Bonnaroo [and] people don’t see what happens behind stage,” said Ferg. “I’m a rapper, but Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas comes to my trailer, I’m hanging out with Selena Gomez…and all of these people that love my music. So it’s just about that time we put the art together.”

In addition to Ferg, Ariana’s album features The Weeknd, Iggy Azalea, Childish Gambino, and Big Sean, who is featured on “Best Mistake.”

Unless you’re actually familiar with Mariah’s discography and know voice and musicality, shut up.

Mariah fans drag this girl when she has done nothing but give Mariah PRAISE yet refuse to put their money where their mouthes are when this bitch releases albums. Less than 100K in the first week for someone of her caliber is pathetic. At least Ariana’s fanbase buys her shit! I think Ariana is very talented, I just wish she would focus on her diction.

    Strawberry Bubblegum Reply:

@Grace, that’s because Ariana’s a new artist. Most artists sell well in their prime during their peak. When Ariana’s in her 40s she’ll struggle too, that’s even if she still has a career which I doubt.

  6. Quit These Wack Comparisons

No disrespect to Ariana, I wish her the best with her career but until she’s sold over 200 million albums plus, has 18 number 1 singles, several Grammy awards, artist of the decade award, hundreds of other accolades and 20 years of longevity then you can call her the next Mariah but until then goodbye!

She isn’t the next Mariah. Mariah broke out as a game changer. This girl is copying Mariah. Love the songs but lets call it what it is. no way is Ariana the next Mimi.

There is no denying this girl is probably the best vocalist to come out in a verrrry long time. Her voice is definitely very reminiscent of Mariah (back when she use to actually sing live), but their music is really different. Ariana is got next, weather you want to accept it or not. She’s blowing up.
That “Best Mistake”, song sounds dope as hell.

Man,I’m a big fan of Ariana Grande. Her voice is dope but I don’t think she is going to be as BIG as Mariah. But I’m sure she is going to blow up.What i don’t understand is why artist like Samantha Johnson ( search her on youtube) are not famous. Please ,listen to her voice.she is magic.Pure talent. She can be the next Mariah or Whitney with that raw talent. She has to become famous.Listen to her and give her the props she deserves. Please do this. SAMANTHA JOHNSON-a name you will remeber . God bless ya’ll

Jojo and Tori Kelly can sing her under the table.

    [Reply]

    P Reply:

    @DRB,

Agreed. Especially Jojo. The label just went out of the way to position her in the “Mariah light”. Tacky promotion if you ask me. But she’ll find her own voice as she gets older (like Christina had to) and be big in her own right:

    [Reply]

    Cherryfalls Reply:

@DRB, I’m not so sure about that.

    [Reply]

    TRP Reply:

@DRB, I disagree. All three of them are powerful vocalist with different tones. If anything, they could all do some vocal damage.

Are artists so weak now that they can’t stand on their own but have to be compared to a better established artist?
