New Music: Nicki Minaj – ‘No Flex Zone (Remix)’

Nicki Minaj

Playtime is over. Nicki Minaj unleashes her ruthless remix to Rae Sremmurd’s anthem “No Flex Zone.” Over the Mike WiLL Made-It production, the reigning rap queen boasts about her supreme status.

“Running this game for five years, guess that’s why my feet hurt / Wonder when they bite me, do these bitches teeth hurt / Yes, I am an icon, that’s me on your T-shirt,” she raps.

She also flaunts her assets (“Ass still fat, it’s on Rick Ross”), bigs up her baller lifestyle (“I live next door to Brad Pitt’s home”), and shuts down potential suitors (“If you ugly, it’s a no sex zone”).

Listen to Onika flex her lyrical muscles.

I’m sick of people saying she’s not racist because her boyfriend is black that doesn’t mean anything if any of you people know history you are well aware that Thomas Jefferson slept with slaves but that didn’t mean he considered them his equal so stop saying it’s just nicki fan’s because even eve said something about iggy not rapping about things that are believable.

@Oh, Lol OH, say what you want but Nicki has always been a better rapper than Iggy, even when she was dressing like a child and had pink hair. Iggy is trash sorry, you’re pathetic if you think Iggy could even be in the same room as Nicki. Have you heard Monster? If Nicki wanted too and put the time in, she could annihilate EVERYONE in the game. Clearly, she is just lazy. Honestly the best thing about Iggy being alive is that she is going to work as a motivator for Nicki to do better. That’s all she is worth, bye eat my a s s you are trash

What makes you think that you can decide who and who doesn’t annihilate somebody in the game when your taste in music is far for being acceptable based solely on your preference of Iggy’s over Nicki’s music?

  15. Realistically

Nicki is really, really good at delivery. She could rap straight from the dictionary and make it sound interesting, just because of her entertaining flow and various voices.

But with that said, she never says anything of substance. I never get any meaning out of her lyrics. Or if I do, it’s really, really basic (e.g. “Freedom”). I guessed that her first verse would start with something about being a bad b*tch and of course … there you go.

Although she’s fun to listen to, I’ve outgrown her subject matter – you know, talking about sex, being rich, and how all these female rappers are her sons. Hope she widens her topic choices in the future.

    [Reply]

    Dave Reply:

@Realistically, this is the truth. I like Nicki, she’s doing her thing but she NEEDS to stop saying the same old thing. She’s been saying it for years and it’s getting lame.

    [Reply]

    TruthSorry Reply:

@Realistically, she’s the PUNCHLINE QUEEN. Meaning bar for bar metaphors, not LYRICAL QUEEN, use your brain. We’ll leave lyrical talent for Lauren. She female weezy, not female kendrick!

    [Reply]

    DRB Reply:

@Realistically, Exactly what I was about to post.

She’s an excellent rapper in the sense that she can “rap” her face off, but she never has anything to say. I’m bored. A compelling story teller she is not.

I have no hope for The Pink Print. She’s either straddling the fence and its generic (first album), selling out and hopping on the bandwagon trying to be faux deep (2nd) or rapping about nothing (Re-Up). When she’s doing serious content, it feels like bad acting to me. Her trial run has expired for me. I’m over it. The fact that I can’t stand her personality makes it worse. She looks beautiful lately so there’s that.

    [Reply]

    DRB Reply:

@DRB, to take it further… this is why she’s like Wayne. Endless punchlines, but stories and compelling material, they aren’t Jay, Nas, Eminem or even Drake for that matter.

To be fair, I hate talking without certainty, I stopped listening to Wayne loooong ago.

Nicki hops on track, does her verses, the chorus is whatever someone else wrote and there’s a lack of synergy. The different pieces fight against each other and literally feels like a mismatched copy and paste a lot of the time.

    [Reply]

    Realistically Reply:

    @DRB,

I agree. But then again – maybe we want her to be everything for everyone because she’s the only one out right now. At least when we get tired of listening to Wayne, we can turn on Kendrick. There’s no other female perspective in hip-hop besides Nicki’s, and she’s giving us HER perspective and personality – she represents one type of woman, and we can’t really ask her to be anything else.

With that said, I just really wish there were other intelligent, creative women who’d rise to the occasion and put out a rap album. I mean, the time is now. So many people are looking for something different. Where they at?!

    [Reply]

    DRB Reply:

    @Realistically, Great point.

If she’s not that type of artist or isn’t capable of going there, that’s just what it is.

    Jonathan Reply:

@Realistically, I honestly don’t see your point and if you do your REAL research on Minaj, you’d see just like she has her “boastful raw raps”, she also has her “real raw substantial songs”. For example, “I’m The Best”, “Moment 4 Life”, “Fly”, “Dear Old Nicki”, “Freedom”, “Pills N Potions”, “Champion”, and my personal favorite “Here I Am”. Nicki Minaj has multiple topics she covers. Her versatility is like no other and sometimes her versatility annoys me but it’s her. I hate when arguing about Nicki I end up having to compare her to her peers but I always say, Nicki Minaj is Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Jay Z, Lauryn Hill and Lil Kim in one. Why? B/c she’s a media manipulator and VERY misunderstood by her own culture like Kanye. She’s has the work ethic and lyrical como ability ad that of Lil Wayne i.e.: doing features and remixes 24/7. She had the business mindset of Jay Z. She has her emotional moments and soulful teases as that of Lauryn and she of coarse she has the sexual vibes and once the fashion sense of Lil Kim. So Nicki’s versatility is self explanatory, y’all just fail to do your research. Now with all that being said, she fucking are this song!

    [Reply]

    Jonathan Reply:

@Realistically, No. I’m far from “unbalanced”. I’m just someone who has a sweet tooth for facts and the fact is she has versatility in her messaging. Let’s take music out of the equation for a second. Let’s look at her movement. Nicki Minaj can sometimes have a “larger than life itself” demeanor and attitude but her message is solid., substantial and in my opinion, inspirational. Her movement inspires women that even though men run a lot of stuff , you don’t have to trade in your femininity to dominate and be included in the conversation of a VERY masculine culture. Another thing I adore about her is her core message to her fans…”Stay In School”, “Work Hard”, “Don’t Allow life’s situations to phase you”, “A brighter day is ahead, keep pushing”. Like come on. She’s promoting education, business mindsets, self determination and perseverance just with her words. With the influence she has, she can be promoting terrorism for God’s sake but she’s promoting a message of hope and opportunity. Now if that isn’t substantial and solid I don’t know what is. Nicki has a potty mouth like any other rapper out here. Nicki has boastful raps but even then I consider it of substance b/c she’s achieved so much and she takes A LOT of pride in that but what rapper doesn’t boast. See the issue is this, when it comes to Nicki, the truth is y’all aren’t balanced b/c y’all try and create this narrative as though she’s so insignificant and just basic but turn around and hold her to these high standards and feels she should meet them. Like get out of here. At the end of the day, she ate this song up. She killed it. Substance or not. It knocks. So. Yeah Keep Hating

    [Reply]

    Realistically Reply:

@Jonathan, I’m hating and unbalanced, yet the first statement I made was a compliment to her delivery. Ok. You’re a Stan who probably thinks “Stupid Ho” was a classic so everything you say is out of blind adoration. But do you, buddy.

    Yaya Reply:

@Realistically, not every rap song has to have meaningful lyrics, because sometimes we need bangerz that we can just let loose and have fun to. And PLEASE explain to me how she was supposed to create meaningful lyrics that have substance to a remix of “No Flex Zone”?. That’s not even the vibe of the song so that statement does not make sense at all lol. And this is because you don’t do your research. Nicki has plenty of songs where her lyrics have substance. Majority of her mixtape songs have substance, and songs where everyone can relate. And her albums as well. “Moment 4 life, sweetest girl, freedom, autobiography, can anybody hear me, here i am, catch me, save me, fly, on top of the world, fire burns, marilyn monroe, dear old nicki, Im the best, girl on fire, etc. I can go on for days. The problem is, Nicki does her verses based off of the vibe of the song. So if she does a remix to “Boss Ass Bitch” then what the hell do you expect her to talk about? Being a boss ass bitch of course. She’s not gonna go on there tryna be all high and mighty and up lifting. That’s common sense. People like you who don’t do their research prior to making comments get so blinded by songs like stupid hoe, and mistake all of her music to sound like that. Like no please do your research. And to people who say she raps about the same shit, PLEASE tell me the difference from any other rapper in the music business today. I’ll wait. Because what majority of what these niggas talk about is getting pussy, having cars, being rich, and other senseless shit, but oh as soon as Nicki want’s to have confidence within herself and call herself a “Bad Bitch” it’s a problem? @troof, See this is where you mess up at, when you say “the rap game”..to whom are you referring to? Nicki is THE QUEEN OF “The Rap Game”, and has worked with just about everyone in “The Rap Game” and has received and still receives countless praise and approval from her peers in the rap game. So when you make a general statement(really opinion) like that supported with NO fact, you kill your own argument. There is a certain portion of active hip hop listeners who probably don’t prefer Minaj’s music but there is also an active portion of hip hop listeners who’d kill over this woman. Stop trying to speak for everyone else, just say YOU don’t respect her as an emcee and trying to create an argument about Minaj’s prominence in Hip Hop by using K. Dot’s “Control” verse is weak. What REAL things has he accomplished and what acts of substance is under his belt right now? A so called legendary rap feature that shook up the game? Oops Nicki already did that with “Monster”. A debut platinum album that received a lot of appraisal and notoriety? Oops Nicki already did that with “Pink Friday”. Winning BET awards? Oops of coarse Nicki has already done that. Being nominated at the Grammys for best new artist, best rap artist and best rap album and still losing? Oops Nicki has already done it. Wait oh I know…having a Eminem feature and receiving praise from Eminem for being a good rapper? Oops Nicki already has already done both, he was featured on her debut album and said she’s a “phenomenal rapper with a phenomenal body”..yep those are his words. Oh wait….I know..having a BET HIP HOP AWARDS cypher? Oops Nicki has already done it. Wait..I got one more..being the most talked about rapper from your side of town(i.e.:East Coast or West Coast)? Oops Nicki has already been apart of that conversation seeing she’s the most talked about rapper from the East Coast. See my friend I did all that to prove my point..stop trying to make YOUR personal opinion about this woman and her artistry a general opinion about where The Hip Hop community is as a whole. Some people love Minaj some people love K. Dot. Some people hate Minaj and some people hate K. Dot. End of Conversation buddy.

@troof, Are you not getting my point? Once again you’re allowing your personal opinions about this woman contaminate the central argument before us. First of all, Pink Friday is Minaj’s most critically acclaimed about to date is a helded by most as one the most Classic female rap albums in history. Secondly, I’m done debating K. Dot. This is Nicki’s post and it’ll be about her. Yes GKMC was a good album none the less but there are MULTIPLE rap albums that trump that but once again this “classic” shit is nothing but an opinion. What you view as classic may not be what I or the rest of the world views as classic and that doesn’t make you or I’d opinion any less legitimate. Stop allowing you distaste for an artist get the best of you to the point to where you feel like YOUR OPINION and again YOUR OPINION is the same view as everyone else’s. Good riddance. Can’t even engage in a REAL debate about the issues.

Tbh you guys critic Nicki way too much, but I get where you coming from. But for sake of music, this is only a freestyle! Do you expect her to talk about deep shit on a song and beat like this? I don’t know what y’all mean when y’all say she raps about the same things, because she hasn’t release an album in almost two and half years! All she is been doing is features and freestyles! Talking about substance? Y’all clearly haven’t heard all her body of work. On pink Friday we have “Here I am, I’m the best, Dear old Nicki, last chance….” Other songs like “encore, Champion, autobiography, can anybody hear me… Hell even Pills N Potions” Just listen. But I agree Nicki doesn’t talk much about deep stuff, but she never came in the game doing that.

But I do agree with what was mentioned above she has a really good vocal delivery ON HER FUN SONGS. But on her realer personal songs it’s just normal rapping and normal flow. There’s nothing wrong with that.

All she can do is flex on a song because she is not a story teller. She does not have “layers” she’s pretty one-sided. She will look back at all the missed oppurtunities she had for as the overall improvement in female rap. SHE was successful yes BUT she made sure NO ONE shined BUT HER. Thats not opening doors, that’s pretty much every man/woman for themselves. It will definitely hurt her in the long run. But hard head makes a soft ass but in nicki case both are HARD!

@no flex zone, Making no one else shine? Do you realize how stupid that makes you sound? It’s not like she holding their hands and telling them not to shine. They are not shining because they are not better than her period! Doors? When was the last time female rappers have so much people interested? When was the last time we had several females on the rap scene with their own audience? Check the fan bases, the only fans these other female rappers have are the people that hate Nicki Minaj facts! For music sakes we just had a female rapper have a #1 and #2 on billboard, now who do you think turned the public’s attention to female rappers? Nicki Minaj! So stop. People won’t acknowledg her impact, but history will! History will record the success and growth of female rap as post-Nicki Minaj impact.

The song is rubbish just like every other song of hers. Shes too over-rated, her lyrics are garbage, and shes always either “dissing” someone or calling someone ugly. Whats up with that? She isn’t even pretty she has a crooked nose and a fake booty! Lol anyway I’m glad I didn’t jump on the Nicki bandwagon because this shyt will flop just like her last single. :-)

    [Reply]

    yahhhhhh Reply:

@Eesa, the fact that this song is just a freestyle………. makes your entire comment irrelevant. This is Hip-Hop, not sugar candy land, she is supposed to talk about how she is the best. if you wan her sentimental stuff go listen to “Still I rise” or “Autobiography”

You just came up in here ready to talk negative. and her last single peaked a t #24 sooo i dont know how thats a flop i could see if it peaked at 50 but dang.

Im tired of people who always wanna talk about “Real Hip Hop” . How are you gonna define something that is CONSTANTLY EVOLVING. ? I get expressing opinions but some of yall be dead ass trying to define what real hip hop is…like stfu and go head with that.

Then some of yall wanna talk about how Nicki talks about the same shit over and over. Shes not a story teller….okay so let me ask this how many of yall can actually say yall have listened to Pink Friday all the way through? And Roman Reloaded all the way through? How many can say they actually listened to all 3 of her mixtapes? If your gonna bash somebody do your fucking research *in my nicki voice*

Nicki will always and forever be underrated and unappreciated in my eyes. Yes I said it @ me though. Shes in a genre ran by MEN she has to switch it up , she cant keep doing the same old shit thats why in my opinion i feel like other female rappers are today and gone tomorrow they have this if its not broke dont fix it mentality. Where as Nicki is constantly coming up with new ideas to keep people talking and people on their some more successful than others but thats what being a TRUE ARTIST is about you evolve.

Thats how shes also opened doors shes not saying follow her footsteps exactly but shes trynna tell these bitches in the genre that they are in they gotta come with it or go home.

I’m sure Kim has been using that flow for the past year???

Anyway I digress, Female rap has lost the story telling. What made Kim and Foxy so great was their ability to tell stories. Even after Big died you listen to songs like Revolution with Grace Jones on NK (the fact Kim got her to feature says a lot about Kim’s talent) up to All Good on The Naked Truth. Kim told stories and I feel she needs to get back to that. Nicki just has nothing for me – she is the biggest gimmick in the game a clone of a whole bunch of different people…she took from Kim, missy and Left Eye – funnily not from Lauryn and Foxy who she cites as her biggest inspirations??? Also there is nothing authentic bout Nicki she has never been in a trap and no one is her son coz Foxy, Kim, Missy and Eve run rings around her – even Iggy (who is average at best, but actually a nice girl and very humble) is slaying her on Billboard.

Kim needs to swallow her pride sign to a big label – Roc Nation would have been a good look for her – and start spitting like the old Kim rather than this autotune mess she has become.

    [Reply]

    Nickistruth Reply:

@Honey Boo Boo, Lmfaooooooooooooooo I’m crying!!!! The only story Lil Kim told her whole career was on the legends of her pussy and her ability to ride and suck dick #ButThatsNoneOfMyBusinessTho y’all haters need to actually make ya argument count and authentic!

    [Reply]

    HoneyBooBoo Reply:

@troof, I disagree people will buy if the music is good! Kim is a legend and we can all sit here and have stan wars, but Kim changed the game Iggy, Azealia, Nicki they are all walking in Kim’s lane and Nicki can say what she wants but Kim broke down the doors for all of them.

Listen I am not a deluded fan, the music of late has been terrible she has let Nicki take her crown but if she can get back to the storytelling, gets the wit in her bars back, lose the atone we want the old flow back, and has a record company behind her who will push it – Kim could have one more album in her. You are right she can’t do sexy anymore she is grown and she has gone too far with the plastic surgery but she can give us a personal record.

Also you are quoting a record that sold 400,000 copies with no promotion. And if you listen to that record it is one of the best fFEMALE rap records ever made it truly is a great record…some of the songs could have been cut from the end but it is better than anything Nicki has put out .

    [Reply]

    Nickistruth Reply:

@Honey Boo Boo, LMFAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I’m cryinggggg!!! Bitch said Lil Kim a story teller tearsss!!! The only story Lil Kim told all her career were the legends of her PUSSY and her sucking and dick riding abilities. You haters need to make your arguments count and authentic at least.

Your comment just shows how little you know about HIP HOP! Keep listening to the Pills and Potions, Starships and Superbass and please stay out of grown folks conversations (please do compare Nicki’s best hits with the ones I listed hahahaha). I’m not a hater I couldn’t care less if Nicki had a 100 billboard number ones – good luck to her – but I am still looking for her in that trap and you Nicki fans be talking about AUTHENTICITY…I’m dead

    Money Hype Reply:

@Honey Boo Boo, Kim was dropped from a major label because her last studio album did not go gold. I must also tell you that Lil Kim was POPULAR at the time and she had a HOT Single but her album sales was in the toilet. Music is about who is popular to a point. So Lil Kim can do whatever but the MASSES are not checking for her. The Best that she can do is Try to tour off of her old work. Lil Kim got some die hard fans but not enough to put her back in the spot light regardless of how good her new music might be.

@troof, ‘that’s just how female rap work’. You are so lame to have said that. So nicki keep forcing/shoving her garbage down your throat, and you keep forcing yourself to accept and like it, because she looks pretty to you. Hahahahaha. Your comment is the lamest comment I’ve heard this year. You are such a big clown. We are looking and waiting to hear good music, dope rap, or story-telling rap,no matter the looks. Anyway @realistically, a big Nicki fan here and I agree with You. I was justsayingthis to a friend of mine.

For Nicki to betaken serious, she gotta get more subjective. That’s kind of why I liked LAN and Chiraq from her because it was a little different subject matter from her. It’s more things in life than braggadocious rap lines and punchline. Listen to Kanye’s old records, or even Lauryn Hill since she says she looked up to her. Even Missy was subjective. Nicki needs to strtch her writing skills a bit more. Show growth. She also needs better producers to make this pink print a classic. Come on Nicki I want you to win.

    [Reply]

  37. winnerI

Another thing, Nicki needs to pick better singles. Pills and potions is a good album track but not a good rasio single. She needs a midtemp or fast banging track for radio. Does not mean it can’t have meaningful lyrics. Its production and subject matter for her. Her flow and delivery is top notch. Lyrics in the middle of the scale and high when she wants

    [Reply]

    Money Hype Reply:

@winnerI, Actually, Pills and Potions is doing good on radio charts. It is in the 20′s on Top 100′s singles. The thing is this. Nicki is chasing money. She doesn’t make street songs for the radio…This right here, remix is for the internet and perhaps the clubs. I am a Nicki’s fan. I hope one day, she can release music less pop-ish.
