Video: Ariana Grande f/ Zedd – ‘Break Free’

Ariana Grande

After topping the iTunes singles chart with the Big Sean-assisted “Best Mistake,” Ariana Grande surprises her Arianators with the video for “Break Free” featuring Zedd.

The pop crusader explores a galaxy far, far away in the futuristic clip, which was inspired by Barbarella and Star Wars. Ariana plays an intergalactic princess who comes to rescue the planet from the dark side. She uses her breasts as weapons and crushes the enemy robots before racing off in her spaceship with Zedd and some extraterrestrial friends.

“It’s inspired by Jane Fonda in Barbarella and Star Wars and space,” Ariana told Ryan Seacrest. “It’s more throwback, campy.”

Her sophomore album My Everything drops August 25 featuring The Weeknd, A$AP Ferg, and Childish Gambino, plus the Iggy Azalea-assisted hit “Problem” and “Bang Bang” with Nicki Minaj and Jessie J.

The day before her album release, Ariana will perform “Break Free” at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards in L.A.

Blast into space with Princess Ariana.

@Oh, you must really be too young, to not have first hand experience of that time when Britney Spears debuted

Yo, get off this site. You’re not old enough to have a literate, comprehensive, and justifiable argument to be having a conversation with grown adults.

    @Major Sushi, bitch shutup.

they have nothing similar besides being spaced theme. your one ignorant uneducated ass adult

@Oh, Nice argument. But did you have to YouTube the video and compare tab by tab?

Not only have you called me and others names, but you have little capacity & in-depth knowledge on why we think this “space themed” video, feels very “Oops I Did It Again”

Not only is this “space themed” but they are both BASED on a movie. Britney, with her Titanic space theme. While Ariana with her Star Wars space-space theme.

Must I discuss about the fact that the camera, hovering over Ariana, is it not the same as Britney’s, Oops I Did It Again? Caressing herself, provocatively? Ariana was not floating in mid-air, she was on a glass floor.

And honestly, the part where the camera was panning left and right, was a Michael Jackson & Janet Jackson flashback meets Ciara & Nicki Minaj.

‘Oops I Did It Again’ & ‘Break Free’ has 5 camera stages: Space intro, close up while caressing face, that white tube stage, the camera over the artist, and end with a little dance.

Not only that, both songs revolve around a central theme: “Resisting a romantic relationship” Or did that just fly over your head?

Plus in between shots, you can see a bit of Katy Perry’s “ET” in it. It has a mix of Christina, Britney, Katy…etc.. The list goes on.

The only original thing I see here are the missiles coming out of her boobs.

Nonetheless, I like the song. The video was plain, because it lacked “Originality” Too many noticeable influences taken from other artists.

I hate to critique something like this, on one of my favorite artists. But… this music video does remind me of a “Oops I Did It Again” thing.

Also, why is she doing that Christina Aguilera thing? You know.. The hand always on the face to frame it.

Then there’s the corniness of making a video based on a song that sounds so “futuristic”

I was expecting more, tbh. Like when I heard this song, I thought of “The Way” music video mashed up with “Baby I” meets somewhere in High School..

This video was poor, to me.

It kind of reminds me of Missy Elliott’s “Sock It To Me” only a 2014 version.

Just my opinion, I don’t need any hateful replies.

She calls her fans “arianators”?? Child I guess. #corny
Anyway I’ve never seen an Ariana grande video before. This is good and I like the song. And I had no idea she was this pretty. I’ve never really looked closely at her. That dry ass ponytail still drains me tho.
    Ok bye

I just don’t like that beat, have heard it at least a million times before on radio. Ariana flawless as per usual but that’s it.

I don’t think I’ve ever watched a video that felt so unoriginal utterly recycled from everything we’ve seen since Oops I did It Again, to Katy Perry, Xtina, Missy and everyone else. Also this song is pure trash….

@bobs, I agree. The video reminded me of Britney the most and I got bored by the end of it. The song is utter trash but I guess they think that will sell more than her rnb stuff. It’s a shame what she puts her voice on.

I never cared about Ariana Grande. I’m only glad that Zedd’s in this music video and that’s the whole reason I listen to this song. I’ve been into Zedd ever since I heard Clarity featuring his future wife Foxes, who I’m also into. I love British people.

The only thing is has similar to Britney’s video is the horrible acting. That’s about it.

  18. Liljo

She looks so fake to me. Her acting is fake… Her “sexy cute” poses are too fake. The video looks like carbon copy of everything that has been already out.

    [Reply]

    vladica07 Reply:

@Liljo, Her sexy cute makes me, and Im a girl, uncomfortable. It sends that pedophile vibe, like if you say she is hot it feels inappropriate since she looks sooo like an under-aged teenager. The ponytail has got to go if they want to make her look more adult and therefore, actually sexy.

@OH HELL NAH!, calm down. Caps lock doesn’t do anything but make you look desperate. Its an amazing song, Zedd is a phenomenal producer and pop music has been around since the 50′s. It is one of the most influential genres out there, before you spew your hate, learn what pop is. EDM and pop are separate things entirely, this is a good mix of the two and a great song.

This song is horrible. It hasn’t popped like “Problem”, which is why they threw “Best Mistake” out there yesterday.

It has nothing to do with the video, the song or her. Why don’t you give her a break. She’s doing great music. If you want to listen to more of her R&B music, you need to wait. I’m a Pop, R&B Hip Hop fan too. I like any kind of music.
