Chris Brown Covers Billboard: ‘Maybe I Was Out of Control’

Chris Brown

As he gears up for the release of his sixth album X on September 16, Chris Brown graces the latest issue of Billboard. A blonde Breezy dons a fedora and bares his tatted chest on the cover, which includes the quote: “Maybe I was out of control.”

In his first post-jail interview, Brown speaks about X, life behind bars, Rihanna, and moving past his troubles.

“I realize that what I do for a living opens my life to public scrutiny and that I have a responsibility to everyone because of that exposure,” he said.

“I can say that I am only human and I have made mistakes. I can say that I try to live my life in the most true, honest way that I can. I am not perfect, no one is. No one is harder on me than me. No one can please everyone. No one can live in the past and expect to grow. I have been moving forward and hope that I am not defined by just a few moments in my life but all of the moments that will make up my life.”

The full story will be released tomorrow.

@troof, The only way he can move forward is by not talking about Rihanna.

    Like LET IT GOOOOO!!!

    Geesh!

@what, Actually, he needs to talk about it but in full no disclosure of the sort, his true opinion and feelings to the world like Rihanna did with Dianne Sawyer on 20/20! Once that happens, he could truly let it go, Rihanna could let it go, and everyone following the story as well!

@what, maybe if they would stop asking him questions about riri it would be better but again that why he needs to perform more so people can focus on the music aspect because during the fame and fortune era people were forgetting the incident with rihanna

2014 really has been a huge year for this guy….wasn’t a fan for a few years because of that “situation”…but honestly you can’t deny his talent and the fact that he is indeed gifted. Considering even buying the kids album

I can see a change in his aura since he’s gotten out of jail and it looks good on him, no homo. You can tell jail changed him for the better and he takes things more serious now

I like the cover and his tatts actually look good, lol. I haven’t been the biggest fan in a while but I’m willing to give him a chance this go-round because I believe he’s turning over a new leaf. As far as X goes, eh, I’ll wait a while before I think about buying it (I’m not sold on it based on the singles so far). Anyway, wishing him the best of luck.

I’m really pulling for this dude he has so much talent despite all the things that went on maybe someday hopefully he will reach the level of Justin Timberlake or Usher and be respected amongst the GP and the music industry. Like it or not he deserves too be bigger then Rihanna because he has wayyyyyyyy more talent then her and that’s a fact. Plus next year will make it 10 years he’s been in the industry.

    [Reply]

    #Schmurdadance Reply:

@#ILUVIT, yea I’m really pulling for him too. He’s the only r&b artist since Usher I have ever stanned for. And 10 years damn maybe one day he’ll do what Beyonce,Usher or Jt did at the awards and perform a melody of his hit songs next year

    [Reply]

    Yo Reply:

@#Schmurdadance, he has been giving me a lot of usher teas these past three years and it’s working for him. He reminds me of a 2010s 8701 usher in terms of style, popularity, awards, and be played on urban radio hopefully x is his confession moment

    [Reply]

    Breezybae Reply:

@Yo, if his team can wake up and promote the damn album he could have his confessions or his FS/LS moment. Chris brown could’ve got a vma slot instead of only performing at the bet awards. Usher performed at the vmas so this could of been the perfect opportunity with chris to promote new flame. I know rca gives usher and justin timberlake the proper management and attention and chris deserves that too. Why isn’t he performing at the upcoming IHeartRadio Festival or Fashion Rocks. Usher is performing at all these events cuz his team is smart you would think chris team can do the same and book him to
promote new flame or the x single but whatever.

    [Reply]

    Yo Reply:

@Breezybae, that’s true he’s should be performing at the mainstream shows it’s not like they won’t let him becuz he’s been hotter this year then last year and he performed on all the award shows outside of bet for the fame and fortune era they’ve even awarded him. If I hi team (I know dis will sound unpopular) set back the x release date and book a slot on the amas and talk shows and release my album around that time. But he doesn’t do talk shows anymore.

    [Reply]

    #gostupid Reply:

@Breezybae, he could’ve gotten on the today show too. Usher performing there tomorrow. I think rca has really given up on chris since the arrest. I really think usher is rca’s premier black r&b artist cuz rca hasn’t got chris to perform anywhere since bet.

    [Reply]

    #wenarichniggawantyou Reply:

@#gostupid, that’s where chris gets the most respect and attention musically is bet. And chris brown music is playing like crazy at urban stations. But too be honest he’s not that marketable anymore. It’s like rca was behind him 2012 and rca gave both attention to usher and chris Brown equally cuz all of 2012 they performed at the same award shows and were the two most popular r&b artists of that year.Even early 2013 they were givin chris some attention until Justin Timberlake came back and they know he has a huge pop audience and saw huge $$$$$,Miguel was on fire and the arrest didn’t help the situation. Rca still wants it’s african american audience and usher is the most popular and marketable artist out of all the r&b artist in rca. So that’s why they promote him more. But at least chris can get hits. So at the end of the day gud music prevails.

    coolness Reply:

@Breezybae, I agree, Chris needs to do better with his promotional campaign. Yes, he has the benefit of having a very dedicated fanbase. Look how they took Loyal to the top 10 of the BB Hot 100 despite him being jailed. However, in order to be a cross-over success an artist must be able to appeal outside their fan-base. That’s what took Usher and Justin to the heights they achieved with respective magnum opuses, Confessions and FSLS. Sadly, Chris seems to be losing general public support and that’s probably why he doesn’t do all these televised performances/interviews anymore. And you think Usher’s team is good, lmao! They’ve messed up more times than I can count with this era. The blame shouldn’t be put solely on the label but on Chris’ management team because it’s their job to go out there and book promo slots for their artist. But I saw a tweet (can’t remember who) that noted that Chris has radio, TV and print promo coming up so have faith!

    Good Kisser Reply:

@coolness, in terms of promotion and booking television performances breezybae is right usher getting that 20/20 experience treatment (iheartradio, bet, vma, the voice, arena tour)But wat I think is usher is gonna tour den release da album in 2015 similar to how bey and Brit did it. Cuz he has drawing power and wat u said crossover appeal.

    Yo Reply:

@coolness, but let’s be honest usher team is better then chris team

    Breezybae Reply:

@coolness, I miss the fame/fortune era because his team was on point and they were determined for him to come back and be groomed again to be the next usher/Jt. He was doing tv interviews and performed at all the mainstream shows (bet, vma, dwts, billboard, grammy) from 2011-2013

    coolness Reply:

@#ILUVIT, I feel you but I think it’s unfair to say someone deserves success over the other. Life is what you make it so instead of wishing Chris would take someone’s spot, I think it’s better to only wish him the best :) Chris may not be so favored right now but be aware that A LOT of people (myself included) were rooting for him to emerge as the biggest male Pop/Urban music star since Usher and JT but he screwed up too early! Chris was 19, Black and only two albums in. Mainstream was NOT going let him off the hook. When Usher and JT were 19, they were JUST starting to really hit it big. Now you have Justin Bieber (before he started effing up too), Bruno Mars and Drake as some of the most biggest male artists out today.

    [Reply]

    #ILUVIT Reply:

@coolness, I feel you but drake and Bruno aren’t really urban pop and they don’t posses that same energy that Jt,usher, and chris have. If chris brown had type of comeback he had 2011/2012 I think justin bieber can have that same type of comeback all he needs is better song and dance moves

Always talking about Rihanna…oh boy. Too bad because Rihanna will not mention or acknowledge them (Chris and his girl koo koo – koo koo do). The desperation is real from those two. Promote your album and keep it moving.

@Nunofyobusiness, it’s funny cuz rihanna did a whole interview about chris brown with oprah so she has part to blame about people bringing it up because he was on his way too being the latest Jt or usher but she screwed him again

@Yo, Crack is whack. You damn fool. The time she did the interview she and Chris was messing around. Pay attention you dumb cunt. Chris also gave interviews around the same time and mention the stupid bajan. Damn the man took it to the internet. Chris Brown phucked up his own career no one is to blame but him. He screwed him self and still doing so. This article don’t mean shyt. Rihanna look like a damn fool when she went back and she still a fool.

Maybe Chris should had promoted this by his self instead of with Karrueche. Peoples did not know her and his association with her threw people off. Chris should has stayed single until he got his self straight.Promote the record and after it was a hit then try to thinkg about his love life. Stop trying to make Rihanna mad about who he is dating. In the end this is your life and who you choose to be with.If he still love Rihanna he should be honest about it.

Guys dis kinda remind me of the 80s and 90s michael was big and he became a legend and another artist that was picking steam was bobby brown in his don’t be cruel era he was hot in the 80s and could of been on mj level but he became the r&b bad boy got into so much trouble and his wife Whitney became the biggest star of 1992 and overshadowed his career he did do promotion vmas, soul train (back in the day bet awards),amas but he didn’t sell that much because the attention was on Whitney. It’s the same thing with rihanna and chris brown. No matter how much promotion with the bobby era but he was never the same again and he was only hot in the urban market. Wat I’m saying chris can promote on any show he’s not gonna be the same ever again and it’s because of rihanna star power

When are you idiots going let this fool accept responsibility for his actions and stop blaming rihanna? The constant blaming her for brown’ out of control behavior is just beyond ridiculous. Even if this fool hadn’t screwed up his life he would still struggle like other black artists have struggled over the years. Leave Rihanna and her accomplishments alone. She worked her ass off nonstop to achieve them. Y’all act like this fool wasn’t telling her to loved her to get back with her as well. Obviously she realized he wasn’t serious and left the situation last year. Move on, she had.
