To celebrate the one-year anniversary of her Grammy-nominated visual album, Beyoncé presents a retrospective short film entitled Yours and Mine. In the black-and-white visuals, Bey reflects on her life, dreams, love, and the burdens of fame, while showing scenes from her music videos.

“I think [privacy] is the hardest thing to give up, but my mother always taught me to be strong and to never be a victim,” says Bey as she looks in the mirror.

She shares words of wisdom throughout the eleven-and-a-half-minute clip. “When you’re famous, no one looks at you as a human anymore,” she says. “You become the property of the public.”

But she’s able to escape through her music and family. She admits to being a “people pleaser,” but she’s now able to deal with conflict. “I’m no longer afraid of conflict, and I don’t think conflict is a bad thing.”

The loss of a friend helped her put everything into perspective. “We do not value ourselves enough, especially young people don’t really appreciate how brilliant our bodies are,” she says.

Her relationship with Jay Z is also touched on. “I’ve always been very, very specific and very choosy–very choosy—about what I do with my body and who I want to share that with.”

She declares herself a feminist (“I was always afraid of that word because people put so much on it”), but has empathy for men, especially African-American men (“I consider myself a humanist”).

In between appearances from Jay Z, her daughter Blue Ivy, and sister Solange, Bey shares the key to happiness.

“Happiness comes from you. No one else can make you happy,” she explains. “One thing that’s for sure, the love I have for music, for my husband, for my child, is something that will last far beyond my life.”

Watch Queen Bey go deep.
