Mariah Carey Kicks Off Christmas Extravaganza in NYC
Joy to the world. Mariah Carey brought Christmas to the Big Apple with her first annual holiday extravaganza, “All I Want for Christmas Is You: A Night of Joy and Festivity.” The Christmas queen kicked off her five sold-out shows at the Beacon Theatre on Monday night.
Fans flew in from all over the world to see her perform holiday hits like “Joy to the World” and “When Christmas Comes” off her best-selling Christmas album Merry Christmas and the 2010 follow-up, Merry Christmas II You. During the super-festive set, she was joined by a dancing Santa, children, and a choir, and changed multiple times (of course).
The newly-single diva wiped away tears as she introduced “Hero,” but cut the song short when her mic pack fell off. A stylist helped with her wardrobe malfunction before she performed the song again.
She capped off the dazzling evening with her classic “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” complete with dancing snowmen, teddy bears, and toy soldiers.
Mariah will play five more shows on December 16, 18, 20, 21, and 22.
Watch her spread some cheer in NYC.
