Nicki Minaj Calls Out MTV for VMA Snub

  /  07.21.2015

Nicki Minaj don’t want none unless it’s Video of the Year, hun. The hip-hop superstar took to Twitter to air out her grievances after being excluded from the Video of the Year category at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards.

While she did score three nods including Best Female Video, Best Hip-Hop Video, and Best Collaboration, Nicki’s “Anaconda” video was not nominated in the VOTY category.

“If I was a different ‘kind’ of artist, Anaconda would be nominated for best choreo and vid of the year as well,” tweeted Nicki. “When the ‘other’ girls drop a video that breaks records and impacts culture they get that nomination.”

Upon its release in August 2014, the raunchy “Anaconda” clip set a record with 19.6 million views in 24 hours and spawned plenty of memes and YouTube parodies.

The “other” nominees in the Video of the Year category include Beyoncé’s “7/11,” Kendrick Lamar’s “Alright,” Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood,” Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud,” and Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk.”

Her collaborative video with Beyoncé, “Feeling Myself,” was left out of the nominations entirely.

Fellow MC Azealia Banks was also feeling slighted. The Harlem rapstress didn’t get any nominations, and was feeling some type of way about it.
