DJ Rhetorik Wins McDonald's Flavor Battle
They came, they spun, they conquered. Up-and-coming DJs from across the country battled it out on the ones and twos in McDonald’s Flavor Battle, and now a champion has been crowned.
Three finalists, DJ Soundwave of Los Angeles, DJ Lani Love of Chicago, and DJ Rhetorik of New York, headed to the Flavor Battle finale during Global Spin Awards weekend in New York City. DJ Clark Kent served as emcee for the evening, while judges DJ Skribble, DJ Shiftee, DJ Jazzy Joyce, and DJ R-Tistic evaluated the finalists’ mixing styles, performance appeal, and technique. While they all put forth their best skills, there could only be one winner.
DJ Rhetorik, who once slept at McDonald’s when he didn’t have an apartment, took home the 2015 Flavor Battle title and walked away with the $10,000 grand prize.
“Winning this year’s McDonald’s Flavor Battle competition is a huge accomplishment for me,” said the 24-year-old DJ. “Honestly, all of the DJs were great, and I’m extremely humbled to even be considered for the opportunity.”
