Meek Mill Found Guilty of Parole Violations, Faces Prison Time
Things aren’t looking so good for Meek Mill.
Earlier today, the Philadelphia rapper took the stand in his ongoing case for probation violation, and pleaded to Judge Brinkley that he’s changed his ways. During the hour-long testimony, he got emotional as he referenced his girlfriend Nicki Minaj, who had previously taken the stand in his defense. “I’m not a gangsta. I’m not a criminal,” he said. “I have my queen, Nicki now. I’m trying to do better and feel like I can be the best rapper alive.”
He also touched on how painful it was that he wasn’t able to visit his mother in New Jersey after a surgery due to the fact that all of his travel outside of the state of Pennsylvania had to be approved. He also apologized to the D.A. for calling her a “bitch” in the song “The Ride.”
But the judge wasn’t on his side. She found him in “technical violation” of his probation, setting a Feb. 5 date for his sentencing and ruling that he cannot leave a five-county area around Philadelphia or perform at any event in or outside Philly.
Meek’s probation stemmed from when he was convicted of gun possession and drug dealing back in 2008, sentenced to 11 to 23 months in prison. He was found in violation of his probation upon release after he continuously scheduled concert performances. The judge revoked his travel permit in 2012, and the following year, he was reprimanded for failing to accurately report his travels. His probation was officially revoked last year, and he served a six-month sentence in prison from July to December.
His friends including Angie Martinez and Chris Brown shared their support.
wish the judge could see the influence meek mill can have out of jail more than in it.Y'all wanna lock him up but what about FREDDIE GRAY?
