In anticipation of his upcoming HBO special “Forest Hills Drive: Homecoming,” J. Cole has debuted the second episode of his five-part mini-documentary series. In the 40-minute clip entitled “Ain’t Nothin’ Like That,” Cole gives us a peek at the inner workings of Team Cole and what life is like on the road.
He also shares some insight into his recording process. “If I wrote a rap, 90 percent of the time I’m gonna use it,” explains Cole, adding, “I got thousands of beats that will never ever be heard or used.”
During his worldwide tour, he visits his alma mater, St. John’s University, and travels overseas to Kriens, Switzerland, where he runs into a fan from Shanghai.
“I never even knew about nobody in Shanghai knowing my shit,” says a humbled Cole.
We also get introduced to members of his close-knit team, some of whom he grew up with. Plus, look for cameos from Pusha T and Jhené Aiko, who joined him on the European leg.
Cole will roll out more episodes leading up to the Jan. 9 premiere of “Forest Hills Drive: Homecoming” on HBO. Each episode will be viewable up until Jan. 9., after which he will release the documentary on DVD.
