As he prepares to release his new album I Decided. next month, Big Sean made his “SNL” debut this weekend. Following an introduction from host Aziz Ansari, the Detroit rapper performed two songs off the project, starting with “Bounce Back.” As smoke filled the stage at Studio 8H, Sean Don brought his resilient anthem to life, while LED screens around him changed colors.

While this marked his first time as musical guest, this was not his first visit to “SNL.” Sean was backstage when Kanye West performed in 2010. “I remember looking around and equating ‘Saturday Night Live’ with a certain level of success,” he told Jimmy Fallon. “Kanye, obviously, is not only a mentor, but also my favorite artist. You can just imagine what that feels like, to come back, and it’s like, I made it to ‘SNL’ on my own.”

For his second performance, the G.O.O.D. Music rapper debuted “Sunday Morning Jetpack.” The inspirational song, which features The-Dream, finds Sean recalling Sundays with his late grandmother.

“This feel like my Sunday morning jetpack / Feel like I sent the prayers up and got blessed back,” he sings.

In a recent interview with Zane Lowe, Sean opened up about the record, which is close to his heart. “It’s that moment where you get lifted up by that positive energy,” he said. “‘Sunday Morning Jetpack’ is one of my favorites on the album. I’m talking about my granddad and grandma and we used to have Sunday dinner every Sunday. I remember when my grandma had her stroke, how things changed so crazy. It took me back to those times in my life.”

On Feb. 3, Sean will release his fourth album I Decided. featuring appearances from Eminem, Jhené Aiko, and The-Dream. After that, he will take the show on the road, launching his “I Decided. Tour” on Mar. 17 in Houston.
