Alessia Cara Performs on 'SNL'

  /  02.05.2017

Live from New York, it’s Alessia Cara.

On Saturday (Feb. 4), the soulful songstress delivered an empowering message during her debut performance on “Saturday Night Live.” With Kristen Stewart serving as host, the Canadian songstress handled the musical guest duties with rousing renditions of “Scars to Your Beautiful” and “River of Tears.”

Dressed in all black for both performances, Alessia’s voice soared across the show’s storied stage. Supported by an orchestral ensemble and backup singers, she first performed her motivational anthem “Scars.”

Then, “River” allowed Cara to continue showing the vocal strength that’s made her one of music’s biggest rising stars. “I believe that you are everything I needed,” she sang, backed by a pianist. “But I don’t need no more.”

After the performance, AC joked about the nerves she had going into this. “live from New York it’s shitting my pants!!!!!” she tweeted. “that was the craziest rush ever I even punched my mic pack off wow what whO where woah.”

With excitement, she added: “IM FLOATING THIS WAS INCREDIBLE THANK U x100000.”

It was an important performance for Cara, who canceled her set at the RedFest in Dubai in order to make this happen.

“I’m so sorry I had to cancel my set at RedFest this year,” she wrote in a letter to fans. “Unfortunately, it conflicted with a very incredible opportunity I was presented with (‘SNL’) and I couldn’t make it to both events the way I would’ve wanted to.”

Prior to appearing on “SNL,” Alessia also spoke with “The Tonight Show” about this thrilling opportunity. During the interview, she remembered a 2012 tweet in which she vowed to appear on “Saturday Night Live” “one day.”

While on “The Tonight Show,” AC also revealed her uncanny “Musical Impressions.” Turning the “Wheel of Musical Impressions,” Cara impeccably impersonated Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj, and Lorde.
