Xscape Teams with Mona Scott-Young for Biopic

They shocked fans with Off the Hook reunion news earlier this year. Now, two competing Xscape biopics are Comin’ at Cha.

The first of those will be executive produced by Love & Hip Hop head Mona Scott-Young and it’s the only one co-signed by the group.

According to Deadline, Scott-Young’s Monami Entertainment is currently shopping the biopic to different networks, which will tell the story of how Kandi Burruss-Tucker, Tameka “Tiny” Harris, and siblings LaTocha and Tamika Scott joined forces to make the platinum-selling quartet.

Meanwhile, TV One has announced its rival biopic, which the group has denounced as disappointing and disrespectful.

“We are excited to join forces with Mona Scott-Young and Monami Entertainment to bring the real Xscape story to the world,” the group said in a joint statement. “This partnership will allow us to tell our story about our lives the way we lived it. It’s our truth about the rise, the fall, and the return of Xscape. We feel the recent announcement of an unauthorized biopic on our lives is disrespectful and disappointing. We are not, in any way, participating in that project and it will never ‘represent’ our true story.”

Scott-Young explained her enthusiasm for the authorized project by highlighting the quartet’s influence. “Xscape has had a huge impact on music and are one of the most successful female groups of all time,” she said. “Monami Entertainment is honored to be charged with bringing the authorized Xscape story to the world.”

In 1993, Xscape released their first album, Hummin Comin At Cha. Two years later, they returned with Off the Hook and their final album (so far) was 1998’s Traces of My Lipstick. Since then, the group has been marred by disagreements.

But all seemed well in February, when the group announced their reunion. At the time, Kandi hinted at more news to follow their revival. “We’ve been approached about a lot of different opportunities,” she said. “I don’t like to confirm anything until the ink dries, but I definitely can say that I am looking forward to performing again with my group members.”

Tocha added: “We definitely have different offers on the table. We’re just taking our time to make sure that we have everything right and in order, but you guys will see us perform again. That’s for sure.”
