Iggy Azalea & Azealia Banks Discuss Reconciliation, Tease Collaboration

  /  06.23.2017

What happens when Azalea and Azealia unite? The music world may soon find out as Iggy and Banks are on the path to reconciliation and may even have a collaboration in the works.

Although they’ve been at odds for years, it seems as though their beef has come to an end. Recently, Iggy posted a note on Snapchat that appeared to close the feud.

“Call me crazy but girl; I don’t hate you,” she wrote. “I don’t know you to hate you. I believe you may want to meet me in person so you can steal a lock of my hair and cast a spell hoping I die (lol) I don’t agree with many of your opinions but honestly, At times I empathize with you as a creative Gemini woman.

“I wish you had spoken to me before deciding I was out to get you when we first came on the scene, but that’s also typical Gemini reaction shit (I get it),” she added. “As a 27 year old adult woman just know: I wish you well from one human to another and joke collaboration or not as adults we should move past trivial beef with strangers.”

After this, Banks spoke with XXL about possibly making peace with Iggy. “I think a true reconciliation can happen once there is some acknowledgment of what hip-hop has been trying to tell her,” she said. “I still don’t think she quite understands the effect her racial privilege and the socio-economic leverage that comes with it has on a marginalized group of women’s culture. Race aside, this is also a women’s issue. I hope that there will be a chance for us to have an open discussion about this, as I feel America and the world could really benefit from some candid discourse between two public figures about the world’s biggest sickness: racism. I wish for women of the future to be able to refer to this moment in women’s culture as an example of what can happen when people take time to understand.”

Later, via Instagram, Banks said that an Iggy collaboration would be part of her “rap bitch dreams.” “If I can manage to get signed by JAY-Z, have him pickup Slay-Z (a no brainer), release the iggy collab, get Kanye to give me this beat (for free lol), release Fantasea II: The Second Wave on TIDAL (so fitting), and get Lionsgate to release CoCo, all my little rap bitch dreams will be complete,” she wrote. “I’ll sign a gag order I don’t care lol. I want to sign with JAY-Z.”

The Azalea and Azealia beef has been going on for years. In 2012, Banks bashed Iggy’s placement as a XXL Freshman. “Iggy Azalea on the XXL freshman list is all wrong,” she said. “How can you endorse a white woman who called herself a ‘runaway slave master’? Sorry guys. But I’m pro black girl. I’m not anti white girl, but I’m also not here for any1 outside of my culture trying to trivialize very serious aspects of it.”

In 2014, Banks continued calling out Iggy. “That Iggy Azalea shit is not better than any fuckin’ black girl that’s rapping today,” she said. “The Grammys are supposed to be awards for artistic excellence… Iggy Azalea’s not excellent.” In response, Iggy called Banks a bully with a “piss poor attitude.”

The following year, their feud was even parodied on “Saturday Night Live.”

In the meantime, Iggy has her own rap dreams to accomplish. Her long-awaited sophomore album Digital Distortion was originally set for June 30, but has since been delayed.
