Compton and Long Beach together? Now, you know you’re in trouble. Kendrick Lamar and Vince Staples unite on the latter’s Big Fish Theory standout, “Yeah Right.”
Featuring additional vocals from KUČKA and production by SOPHIE and Flume, “Yeah Right” finds Vince questioning men and women about their lies and their lifestyles.
“Is your house big? Is your car nice?” he raps. “Is your girl fine? Fuck her all night? / Is you well paid? Are your shows packed? / If your song played, would they know that? / How the thug life? How the love life? / How the workload? Is your buzz right? / Do the trap jump? Is the plug right? / Got your head right? Boy, yeah right.”
Meanwhile, K-Dot crowns himself the new Dana Dane on his verse, while saying he gets paid like two Damon Wayans. However, he also understands the power of his own name.
“Pop like four on the floor, been in rotation,” he raps. “No allegation / Popular demand, I understand my name is only for conversation / New York ni**a be like ‘deadass’ / L.A. ni**a be like ‘on the dead homies.'”
This is the first time Kung Fu Kenny and Vince have collaborated. It arrives two months after Staples crowned Lamar the “greatest rapper alive” during an interview with Power 106. “If we’re talking about right now, it’s Kendrick, easy,” he said. “It’s not even close.”
Meanwhile, Kendrick is about to kick off his “DAMN. Tour” on July 12. On Saturday, he gave fans in Los Angeles an early sample of the tour, when he performed as a surprise guest during ScHoolboy Q’s BET Experience set.
