As “Bodak Yellow” continues to move up the charts, Cardi B opens up about her career trajectory, her growth as an artist, and her plans for the future.
Speaking to Ebro Darden on Beats 1, the reality star-turned-rapper explains how she is dealing with her newfound success. “I’m supposed to be very, very happy because ‘Bodak Yellow’ is doing really good, but I’m actually really losing my mind because I need another song,” she explained. “What’s gonna take it there?”
“Bodak Yellow” is making major moves, shooting from 49-28 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week.
Elsewhere during the interview, Cardi gave props to her peers. “I know [Lil’ Kim],” said Cardi. “She’s really nice…Remy, I really like Young M.A., Queen Latifah was really nice to me too. I didn’t know Solange roots for me so much….I found out that ’cause of her, my song ‘Lick’ was played in an episode [of ‘Insecure’]. It makes me real happy that so many people who are so big are really rooting for me.”
But there’s one female superstar she really wants to meet. “Madonna,” said Cardi. “My mom used to listen to her so much.”
Cardi’s Gangsta Bitch Music Vol. 2 is out now, featuring the Offset-assisted “Lick.” Meanwhile, “Bodak Yellow” is a precursor to her next project, which has yet to be announced.
