Kendrick Lamar's 'DAMN.' Returns to No. 1

  /  08.14.2017

King Kendrick reclaims the Billboard 200 throne with DAMN. Garnering almost 47,000 equivalent album units, Kendrick Lamar’s latest LP earns its fourth nonconsecutive week atop the chart.

Kung Fu Kenny’s critically-acclaimed third major label studio album was also the most-streamed project of the week with 46.2 million on-demand audio streams for its tracks. Overall, the effort garnered 11,000 traditional album sales and 31,000 streaming equivalent album units.

DAMN.’s return to the top is notable for several reasons. It’s the first album to have four weeks at No. 1 since The Weeknd’s Starboy, which spent five weeks on the chart. Its 13 week break from the top spot also marks the longest gap since Mumford & Sons’ Babel, which came back to No. 1 after 17 weeks back in 2013.

DAMN.’s 47,000 units also marks the second-lowest weekly total for a No. 1 album since the chart started ranking by consumption units in 2014. The lowest total went to the Descendants soundtrack in 2015, when it reached the top slot with 42,000 units.

Elsewhere on the Billboard 200, DJ Khaled’s Grateful jumps 4-3 with nearly 31,000 units, Meek Mill’s Wins & Losses rises 3-4 with 31,000 units, and 21 Savage’s Issa Album stays strong at No. 6 with 29,000 units. Rounding out the top are SZA’a Ctrl and Khalid’s American Teen, both of which moved approximately 27,000 units.
