JAY-Z Sings 'Happy Birthday' to Beyoncé at Made in America

  /  09.04.2017

With a little help from the Philadelphia crowd, JAY-Z wished his wife Beyoncé an early happy “Bey Day” on Sunday (Sept. 3).

During his closing set at Made in America, Young Hov asked fans to join him in singing “Happy Birthday” to his beloved wife just one day ahead of her 36th birthday. Donning sunglasses and a Houston Rockets jersey, Queen Bey watched alongside Michelle Williams while Jigga ad-libbed the crowd’s chorus.

The show marked a significant moment for Shawn Carter, since it was also his first time performing songs off his 13th studio album 4:44 in the U.S. Last month, he debuted many of them at the V Festival in London.

Just like his British show, this one was backed by a 40-foot-tall metallic Jeff Koons inflatable dog. Hov performed his biggest hits as well as tracks from 4:44 including “BAM,” for which he brought out Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley as a Lion of Judah flag waved across the stage.

Much like he did last month, Hov also used this opportunity to honor Linkin Park’s Chester Bennington, who died by suicide in July, with a rendition of their collaboration mash-up, “Numb/Encore.” This weekend’s show also included a brief tribute to Houston in the wake of Hurricane Harvey following his performance of “Big Pimpin’,” a collaboration with Texas rap legends UGK.

But JAY-Z wasn’t finished. Following his hit-filled set, he returned for an encore on a different stage, where he was joined by hometown hero Meek Mill for the “Dreams and Nightmares (Intro).”
