Logic & Alessia Cara Perform '1-800-273-8255' on 'Ellen'
Logic and Alessia Cara brought their suicide prevention anthem “1-800-273-8255” to daytime television with a special performance on “Ellen.”
After being called “the voice of his generation” by host Ellen DeGeneres, the Elysium boss took the stage in a “1-800-273-8255” hoodie that read “You Are Not Alone” on the back. Supported by a choir and a live band with an orchestral section, the Maryland rapper was joined by Alessia for a soulful set.
Logic and Alessia also sat down to speak with Ellen about the song’s message. “The album, Everybody, is me rapping and singing from the perspective of others,” said Logic. “As a rapper, we kind of talk about us, us, us all the time. I was like, ‘What can I do to try to separate that and spread a positive message?’ This song embodies the whole album as well. It wasn’t sugarcoated. It was, ‘This is what people go through.'”
Cara echoed his thoughts when describing her inspiration for the collaboration. “This is real and there are so many people, even people close to me, who have gone through this before, that have felt that their lives aren’t worth it just being simply who they are,” she explained. “I thought it would be a great opportunity to talk about that and let people know that they’re not alone.”
The gold single, which also features Khalid, is currently No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100. It is the highest-charting song to date for all three artists.
