New Music: Miguel - 'Pineapple Skies'

  /  11.16.2017

Following “Sky Walker,” “Shockandawe,” and “Told You So,” Miguel takes flight on “Pineapple Skies,” the latest release from his upcoming album, War & Leisure.

Over a funky rhythm, the Wildheart heartthrob soars to great heights. “Are these trees high enough, baby?” he sings. “Leave us so high, your feet won’t touch the ground / Would you look up, baby? / It’s pineapple purple skies / I promise everything gon’ be alright.”

In July, Miguel previewed the song on Snoop Dogg’s “GGN” series. At the time, he said it would be a single off his upcoming album. Tha Doggfather smoked up while bopping his head to the track. “I need this on my DJ playlist,” he said. “I break records, man. You would want it to be in my hands.”

War & Leisure, the follow-up to 2015’s Wildheart, was inspired by the current political climate. “This album is intentionally about the ethos right now, that we are right in the middle of all this,” explained Miguel. “We’re trying to flourish in the middle of all this. We all wake up, and it’s time to be creative and amazing and positive and all the things that we’re supposed to be when you look on Instagram, but then we’re dealing with these same problems, this injustice, wars between politicians with egos. Like, 140 characters are going to get us into a war right now?”

War & Leisure is due Dec. 1.
