Video: Kehlani - 'Honey'

  /  12.04.2017

After walking home with the Rule Breaker of the Year award at Billboard Women in Music, Kehlani provides a sweet visual for her latest buzz single, “Honey.”

The David Camarena-directed video has a vintage feel, allowing Lani and her girlfriend, played by newcomer Aarianna Johnson, to share intimate moments behind grainy, honey-soaked filters. In between beautiful shots of leaves, clouds, and buzzing bees, the superstar singer and her girl get up close and personal.

“I like my girls just like I like my honey,” Lani sings amid acoustic guitar strumming on a rooftop. Then, passionate kissing and tender caresses ensue. The couple even makes out as the sun sets behind them to close out the short road trip-inspired video.

According to Lani, the video was filmed at a significant place. “special thank you to mi prima @mayarecamp for letting us work with those precious bee’s on the family land in Guinda, CA,” she wrote.

Plus, it carries a strong message about perception and inspiration. “there were particular reasons why I chose [Aarianna Johnson] for this video,” she wrote. “this song was inspired by an androgynous woman, and I wanted to find someone who fell in line with that, who was ‘hard’ yet so so soft (yes, like a bee). I was asked ‘why not use a feminine girl?’ , but I knew I wanted to honor the inspiration, and paint the picture of the sweet tender aspect that shines through every woman, no matter what. Thank you for doing this @beingspontaneous she killed her first video job everyone!”

“Honey” is a buzz single that dropped in October. It’s been followed by “Touch” and “Already Won.” Now, after collaborations with Lil Yachty, Calvin Harris, and Marc E. Bassy, Lani Tsunami is set to team up with Cardi B. Next year, she will also join Demi Lovato and DJ Khaled on tour.
