Troy Ave Indicates He Will Testify Against Taxstone in New Song

  /  02.01.2018

Troy Ave is back with more revelations about the infamous Irving Plaza shooting. The New York rhymer unleashes a detailed account of the incident in the animated video for his latest single, “2 Legit 2 Quit.”

The track is now drawing attention because it appears to confirm that Troy will be testifying against podcast host Taxstone, who is accused of shooting and killing his former bodyguard Banga.

“I’m only loyal to my fam,” he raps on the song. “Middle finger from the stand / It’s either me or it’s you.” The video features a cartoon depiction of Troy putting up his middle finger from the court stand.

All of this stems from the infamous Irving Plaza shooting in May of 2016, where Banga was shot and killed. Ave, who was seen shooting a gun in surveillance videos, was arrested and charged with attempted murder. The rapper, who was also shot that night, pled not guilty, eventually avoided the murder charge, and was released on $500,000 bond.

Months later, in January of 2017, Taxstone was arrested in connection with the shooting. The popular host of “Tax Season,” who was spotted running in the surveillance tape, pled guilty to federal gun charges, possessing a firearm as a felon, and receiving a firearm in interstate commerce, according to Complex. He now faces up to 20 years in prison.

“2 Legit” appears to shed light on the incident, as well. “Sucker fired, I got hit,” raps Ave. “I beat him up and took his pistol / Right out his hands / I was blowin’ to make him R.I.P. / He was scared and he was swift / Tables turned, watched him flee.”

The animation shows Troy shooting a running Taxstone, who is identified by an #Unsafetho shirt mocking his “Be safe tho” tagline. Taxstone’s court date has not yet been announced.
