Kanye West to Launch Donda Social to Help Chicago

  /  04.27.2018

Kanye West wants to give back.

After criticizing President Obama’s administration and celebrating President Trump, the Chicago MC is hoping to help his hometown with Donda Social, according to TMZ.

Longtime collaborator Malik Yusef says he will be involved with the non-profit organization, which was named after West’s late mother. Common, Chance the Rapper, Vic Mensa, and Don C are also expected to join in. Yusef states that celebrities may visit areas in need and provide voices and money towards various causes.

Earlier this week, West criticized President Obama. The former president studied and worked as a community organizer in Chicago throughout the ’90s and early aughts. His Obama Foundation, which houses the My Brother’s Keeper Alliance and a scholarship program, is based in Chicago. “Obama was in office for eight years and nothing in Chicago changed,” West tweeted. He also called Trump one of his “favorite people.”

John Legend and Chance the Rapper are longtime West allies who disavowed Trump in the wake of his comments. “I hope you’ll reconsider aligning yourself with Trump,” Legend wrote in a private text that West published.

“I’d never support anyone who has made a career out of hatred, racism and discrimination,” Chance wrote in an open letter. “I’d never support someone who’d talk about Chicago as if it’s hell on earth and then take steps to make life harder here for the most disenfranchised among us.”

West is promoting a solo album and a joint project with Kid Cudi called Kids See Ghost. He also plans to release a new song called “Lift Yourself.”
