Cardi B Opens Up About Met Gala Meeting with Nicki Minaj

Cardi B and Nicki Minaj’s feud may be coming to an end. After Barbie revealed an apparent rivalry with Bardi, the two seemed to make up at the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Benefit Gala on Monday (May 7). Now, the Bronx bombshell opens up about her “misunderstanding” with the Young Money queen during an interview with Howard Stern.

“I never was feuding with anybody,” clarified Cardi. “There was a misunderstanding. She felt a certain type of way about something and I definitely felt a certain type of way about something. Didn’t want to ever talk about it in public because I felt like we gonna see each other again and we will talk about it. It’s always little issues but the thing is, fans are always gonna make it a big thing. I spoke to her about it [at the Met Gala]. It’s just like, see? It was just something that it had to be talked about.”

Cardi has maintained that there is no feud with Nicki. Last month, she called it fake during an interview with Beats 1. “It’s really internet made-up,” she explained. “I feel like fans and people want to see that happen because it’s really entertaining. I ain’t even gonna front. When Nicki and Remy was beefing, everybody was tuning in like, ‘What’s next?’ But I don’t have time for that. If you ain’t fucking my man or if you not taking my money from me, you not stopping my money, I don’t give a fuck about you.”

At the time, she seemed to indicate that there was no bad blood. “People made a lot of theories. What is it that people expect me to do or say?” she asked. “I already said she’s an amazing artist, paid my respect to her, I did videos before jamming to her songs. What do people expect? Y’all want me to say something bad…I’m not falling for that.”

A week later, however, Minaj said she was “hurt” by Cardi. “The first interview she did after ‘MotorSport’ came out, it just really hurt me. She looked so aggravated and angry,” said Minaj. “The only thing she kept saying was, ‘I didn’t hear that verse. She changed her verse.’ I was like, ‘What?’ … Her most recent interview, Cardi, that’s when I came back on Instagram, I saw it, and I finally felt like she said something genuinely nice about me. But ‘MotorSport, I kinda felt ambushed.”

Later that same day, Minaj directed a tweet at Cardi. “How can you say someone changed their verse & forget to say Quavo TOLD me to remove my singing part (which I loved) & Atlantic told me to remove your name from my verse per your request? So how were those changes gonna happen if I didn’t ‘change’ my verse?”

The original verse featured a line that said, “If Cardi the QB, I’m Nick Lombardi,” a reference to one of the most iconic coaches in football history, Vince Lombardi.
