New Music: Dawn Richard – ‘NLX’

Dawn Richard

Hot on the heels of her critically-acclaimed debut Goldenheart, Dawn Richard liberates “NLX,” the remix to “Northern Lights.” The all-new production, helmed by D’Mile, appears as a bonus cut on the deluxe edition of the album, available exclusively at FYE.

Unlike the upbeat original, the new version features a subdued beat, with Dawn singing about chasing love, whether it’s wrong or right.

Without backing from a major label, the independent release still managed to debut at No. 10 on Billboard’s R&B Albums chart and No. 2 on the Heatseekers chart.

Dawn Richard Performs for Rap-Up Sessions

To celebrate the release of her debut album Goldenheart, Dawn Richard stopped by Rap-Up’s studio to kick off our new performance series, Rap-Up Sessions. While overlooking the famed Sunset Strip and the Hollywood sign, the Danity Kane alum and her production partner Druski performed an exclusive three-song set including her single “’86,” “Warfaire,” and the title track “Goldenheart,” which is Dawn’s favorite song on the album.

“It’s the most personal and I recorded it a long time ago,” she said. “It was one of the first times I had gone through something so horrible that I didn’t think I would be able to come back from it. I felt like I wanted to write about a record where we were naive enough to believe we could be saved by a shining prince. It was so naive, but we felt that it was real.”

New Music: Dawn Richard – ‘Goldenheart’ [Album Snippets]

The Preface

The time has almost come. With a week to go until Goldenheart arrives, Dawn Richard releases snippets of her full-length debut on what she calls The Preface. The 16 tracks include the singles “’86″ and “Pretty Wicked Things,” along with plenty of anthems for her Hearts. You can pre-order the album now on iTunes.

“The last six years have been a battle for people to understand and conform me into what they really want me to be and I’ve kind of had to protect that throughout this whole journey,” said the former Dirty Money member. “It’s kind of the story of me protecting this Goldenheart, which really kind of symbolizes my own heart and my passion for this music thing and really who I am.”

Dawn has also teamed up with eyewear designers Coco and Breezy to create an exclusive pair of sunglasses. The Goldenheart shades are one of the new styles from Coco and Breezy’s new “Omorose” collection.
