Iggy Azalea Opens ‘New Classic’ Tour in Boston

Hotel Iggy

Hotel Iggy is now open for business. Following her opening slots on tours with Beyoncé, Nas, and Rita Ora, Iggy Azalea launched her first headlining tour in Boston on Wednesday. The Aussie rap sensation transformed the House of Blues into her own hotel, performing her hits and new material off her just-released debut The New Classic.

Dressed in a Scarface-inspired getup, she kicked off her hour-long set with “Beat Down” and performed crowd favorites including “Fancy,” “Work,” and her mixtape cut “Pussy.”

Backed by a troupe of female dancers and DJ Wizz Kidd, Iggy also treated the crowd to the first performances of “Black Widow,” “Don’t Need Y’all,” and “Rolex” off her new album.

The 14-date North American trek travels to major cities including Detroit, Chicago, New York, Atlanta, and Los Angeles, wrapping May 22 in Seattle.

Iggy also guests on Ariana Grande’s new single “Problem,” which hits iTunes this weekend.

Charli XCX and Iggy Azalea

With her debut The New Classic in stores today, Iggy Azalea celebrated with a visit to “Good Morning America.” The Aussie rap sensation recreated the Clueless-inspired video, transforming the Times Square studio into a high school while performing her hit single “Fancy” with Charli XCX.

She also spoke about her journey from a small town in Australia to international rap stardom. “I just always loved rap music, I loved OutKast, I loved Missy Elliott,” said Iggy, “and being from a town where I didn’t see fabulously-dressed women or these sorts of things, I loved to watch music videos and kind’ve escape and daydream and wish it could be my life.”

Her album is already No. 1 on iTunes in the U.S., beating out new releases from Future, Asher Roth, and Kelis.

New Music: Iggy Azalea f/ Rita Ora – ‘Black Widow’ [Snippet]

Rita Ora and Iggy Azalea

Iggy Azalea takes it to the trap with fellow blonde Rita Ora on “Black Widow,” rumored to be the next single off the Aussie rapper’s debut The New Classic. The dark love song, produced by Benny Blanco and Stargate, sounds like the sister of “Dark Horse” by Katy Perry, who wrote the chorus.

“I’m gonna love you until it hurts / Just to get you I’m doing whatever works,” raps Iggy.

You can preview snippets off Iggy’s entire album on iTunes in advance of its April 22 release.

Meanwhile, her Charli XCX-assisted single “Fancy” continues to climb the charts, rising 15 spots to No. 56 on the Hot 100 this week.
