New Music: Jermaine Dupri – ‘I Think I’m Berry Gordy’ [Mixtape]

Jermaine Dupri takes a break from being a label honcho to record and release a new mixtape, I Think I’m Berry Gordy. Named after the legendary Motown founder and the freestyle J.D. recorded over Rick Ross’ “B.M.F.,” the DJ Holiday-hosted collection of tracks sees the ATLien stepping into the booth to rhyme over instrumentals including Kanye West’s “POWER,” Rawse’s “MC Hammer,” and Chris Brown’s “Deuces.”

Bow Wow spits some bars on his remake of Drake’s “Up All Night” and Johntá Austin lends his vocals to “Take Me Away,” where he reflects on the past. Feed your hard drive with 10 new So So Def tunes below.

Rap-Up TV: T.I. Presents J.D. with ASCAP’s Song of the Decade Award

T.I. was on hand to present Jermaine Dupri, Johntá Austin, and Manuel Seal with the Song of the Decade Award for Mariah Carey’s “We Belong Together” at ASCAP’s 23rd Annual Rhythm & Soul Music Awards in Beverly Hills on Friday night (June 25).

“‘We Belong Together’ is a beautiful song that packs a big punch and expresses a wide range of emotions,” said Tip. “The song proved to be one of the biggest triumphs of Carey’s career.”

Da Brat Out of Prison on Work Release, Reveals New Job

Guess who’s back in the motherf#$*ing house? It’s Da Brat tat tat. The “Funkdafied” femcee has been released from prison on work release after originally being sentenced to three years for hitting a hostess in the head with a rum bottle during an altercation at an Atlanta nightclub in 2007.

While she has plans to return to music with a new mixtape and album, her temporary job is making windows. “I’m out on a lil’ pass; I had to do some lawyer, attorney stuff,” she said in an episode of Jermaine Dupri’s “Living the Life” vlog. “I got a job. I work a 9 to 5 because I’m in the work release program. I make windows, so if ya’ll need a window, holla at your girl.”

Da Brat’s last studio effort, Limelite, Luv & Niteclubz, was released in 2003.

Rap-Up TV: Dondria Meets Her L.A. Fans

On Friday (May 21), 50 lucky fans won the chance to meet Dondria at an exclusive meet and greet at Porta Via in Beverly Hills hosted by Jermaine Dupri and Rap-Up.com. The “You’re the One” singer, 23, turned on her Southern charm as she went around the room greeting her new friends individually, posing for photos, and exchanging Twitter names.
