New Music: Kelly Rowland f/ Wiz Khalifa – ‘Gone’

Wiz Khalifa and Kelly Rowland

Kelly Rowland kicks her man to the curb on “Gone,” her collaboration with Wiz Khalifa. Over a snapping beat, produced by Harmony, the Destiny’s Child diva sings about a man who played with her heart and let her slip away. But she’s done putting up with his games.

Wiz lends some support to his “sister,” telling her man to pack his bags and hit the road.

The track borrows a sample from Joni Mitchell’s “Big Yellow Taxi,” which Janet Jackson also sampled on her 1997 single “Got ‘Til It’s Gone.”

In addition to Wiz, Talk a Good Game (June 18) features Beyoncé, Michelle Williams, Pharrell, Pusha T, and The-Dream.

The-Dream was in for all sorts of surprises during his appearance on “106 & Park” to promote his new album IV Play. In addition to receiving phone calls from Kevin Hart and DJ Khaled, his tourmate Kelly Rowland presented him with a plaque for over 50 million singles sold worldwide for superstars including Beyoncé and Rihanna.

“I’m here to give this incredible genius man this plaque because he has worked so hard and has worked with so many artists,” said Kelly, who shared the stage with Dream during the “Lights Out” tour in NYC.

The-Dream was overcome with emotion and teared up. “I call him a brother now. He’s one of the most special people in my life,” said Kelly, who reflected on her own emotional performance of “Dirty Laundry.”

“The song has really been therapeutic for me,” she said of The-Dream-penned record, which will appear on her upcoming album Talk a Good Game. “It’s a place where I was. I’m of course in a different place now and it’s just very emotional for me, just actually going back to that place mentally and being there. But it’s fine, I’m a big girl now. I’ve grown and learnt from it.”
