Drama was the last thing on Mary J. Blige’s mind while soaking up the sun over the weekend in Miami. The R&B queen kicked back and pampered herself on the beach while enjoying the company of friends. Mary, who recently shot the video for her next single “Why” with Rick Ross, dressed comfortably in denim shorts and a green adidas track jacket, covering her face with sunglasses.

The “Mr. Wrong” singer lends a hand to Monica by guesting on the intro for her upcoming album New Life, due April 10. She shares some encouraging words for her peer via a phone conversation.

Fresh off her appearance on “American Idol” this week, Mary J. Blige met up with Rick Ross to shoot the video for “Why,” the new single from her album My Life II… The Journey Continues (Act I). The Bawse looked sharp in a white tuxedo jacket while joining the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul on the West Hollywood set, later posing with his Maybach Music signee Stalley.

“Thank you so much @rickyrozay for coming through for me on the Why video!! I really appreciate you!!” tweeted Mary, to which Rozay responded, “Luv.”

Mary J. Blige pulled double duty on “American Idol” this week, mentoring the top 13 contestants and filling in as the musical guest. The Queen of Hip-Hop Soul hit the stage on Thursday’s results show, performing her Rick Ross-assisted single “Why” for the first time on television. Mary J. Blige showed her stars and stripes at Sunday’s NBA All-Star Game. Dressed in all black with curly hair, the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul presided over the court with a soulful rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

While Mary was in Orlando, she was thinking of her friends in Hollywood attending the Academy Awards. “Had a great time at the game. Congrats to my girl Octavia on her Oscar win 2night,” she tweeted in support of The Help actress.

Mary J. Blige Rocks Belvedere Red Pre-Grammy Party

The vodka was flowing and the soulful sounds of Mary J. Blige emanated from the speakers at the (Belvedere) RED Pre-Grammy Party at Avalon in Hollywood on Thursday night. MJB shimmered in gold on the red carpet, posing with comedienne Chelsea Handler at the all-red affair, which benefitted the Global Fund to fight HIV/AIDS in Africa. Kelis, MC Lyte, Sheila E., and Paris Hilton were among the celebrity sightings.

While waiting for the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul to make her entrance, guests sipped on signature Belvedere cocktails including pink mojitos and St. Clements, while DJ Ruckus provided the soundtrack.

Around 11 p.m. Mary hit the stage in a black bodysuit and boots, taking fans on a musical journey with her My Life classics and newer fare such as “Family Affair” and “Just Fine,” as her husband/manager Kendu Isaacs and Tamar Braxton looked on.
