50 Cent Nervous About Working with Michael Jackson

50 Cent shows a more serious side when speaking about his collaboration with Michael Jackson. The rapper is featured on the Teddy Riley-produced song “Monster” off the King of Pop’s posthumous album Michael, due December 14.

Even 50 was nervous when having a conversation with the late icon. “To talk to him is confirmation on different levels that you’ve made it. He wanted to work with me,” said the hip-hop mogul. “I’m like, ‘I’d love to.’ I’m nervous on the other end of the phone. I don’t usually get nervous because I really don’t care about a lot of the other artists, but Mike is special.”

He returned to the studio to lay down his verse after MJ’s passing. “When I sat and listened to the actual song, I was excited. I said, ‘This is the 2010 version of ‘Thriller,’” he shared. “I mean it’s an opportunity to be on a record with, not just a great artist, but a legend.”

Michael Jackson

Another record from the Michael Jackson vault was released today. According to MichaelJackson.com, the bittersweet tune was written at the time of Thriller and features dulcet strings and acoustic guitars, with the King of Pop singing about a woman who won’t take his hand.

“I never thought she’d leave me here forever/ But who knows just what the future brings/ And would you like to go with me/ And she answered no to me/ Well guess I learned my lesson much too soon,” a broken-hearted MJ sings on the track, helmed by him and producer John McClain.

This and nine other previously unheard songs will be included on his posthumous album MICHAEL, due December 14.

An unfinished version of the uplifting song leaked in 2008 and has since been completed by Akon for the December 14th release, which also includes collaborations with 50 Cent and Lenny Kravitz.

“The world was not ready to hear ‘Hold My Hand’ when it leaked a couple years ago. We were devastated about it,” said Akon. “But its time has definitely come; now in its final state, it has become an incredible, beautiful, anthemic song. I’m so proud to have had the chance to work with Michael, one of my all time idols.”
