Brandy and Monica were just teenagers when they released their Grammy-winning hit “The Boy Is Mine.” Fourteen years later, the ladies are back, looking more glamorous and beautiful than ever in the behind-the-scenes teaser for “It All Belongs to Me,” their Rico Love-produced collaboration. The video, directed by Chris Robinson, was shot at a palatial mansion in the Los Angeles area and will premiere March 5. Get a sneak peek below.
What a week it has been for Brandy and Monica. After pulling out of their performance at Clive Davis’ pre-Grammy party following Whitney Houston’s death, the R&B singers teamed up to perform their new collaboration “It All Belongs to Me” for the first time on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.” Dressed in all black, they put their powerful pipes on display, and Monica paid tribute to Whitney with her shirt.
The dueting divas embraced at the end, continuing the love on Twitter. “@MonicaBrown you did greAt tonight Miss Thang! So proud to stand next to you:) love you!!!!” tweeted Brandy, to which Monica replied, “I LOVE u More.”
They shot a video for the Rico Love-produced song earlier this week with director Chris Robinson, and the single is now available on iTunes.
Brandy and Monica shared a personal bond with Whitney Houston. Just days before her death, the singers spent time with their friend at rehearsals for Clive Davis’ pre-Grammy party. “E! News” caught up with them on set of the Chris Robinson-directed video for their new single “It All Belongs to Me” on Monday, where they shared memories of the late legend.
“She’s the reason why I sing. It’s just crazy, it’s so crazy,” said an emotional Brandy, who was at a loss for words. “Every step I make I’m gonna do my best to make her proud and that’s all I can do.”
Monica recalled first meeting Whitney when she was 14. “She was a jokester. I don’t know if people really understood that she was hilarious,” Mo told Clinton Sparks. “The other day, she came in and she heard mine and Bran’s song and she walks up to me and she goes, ‘You killin’ that run at the end.’ She was like, ‘And you know I know you stole it from me, right?’”
Despite the loss of their dear friend and mentor Whitney Houston, Brandy and Monica remained strong and carried on with plans to shoot the video for their new collaboration “It All Belongs to Me” on Monday (Feb. 13). The R&B powerhouses, who called off their performance at Clive Davis’ pre-Grammy party on Saturday, joined forces on the Los Angeles set 14 years after “The Boy Is Mine” topped the charts.
Monica shared two photos from the shoot with director Chris Robinson, including one of her wearing a shirt showing a young Whitney Houston. “First shot of ‘It All Belongs To Me’ video…I’m smiling because I know my angel is with me❤Luv U 4ever Nippy,” she tweeted.
They will perform the Rico Love-produced song on Thursday’s “Tonight Show with Jay Leno.” Rap-Up TV recently caught up with the ladies during rehearsals for Clive’s party to speak about reuniting and their upcoming albums.
Brandy and Monica are reuniting and it feels so good. The ladies linked up at Thursday’s rehearsals for Clive Davis’ Pre-Grammy Gala at the Beverly Hilton, where they performed their 1998 classic “The Boy Is Mine” and new collaboration “It All Belongs to Me.” Even Whitney Houston showed up to lend her support ahead of Saturday’s big event honoring Sir Richard Branson.
Afterwards, they sat down with legendary music executive Clive Davis to discuss reuniting after 14 years, their new Rico Love-produced song, and upcoming albums.
Brandy’s as-yet-untitled RCA/Chameleon Records debut is due in May, featuring production from Frank Ocean, Sean Garrett, and Love. “It’s just gonna be a different album, but of course expressing the love that I feel now and the struggles and the different situations that I’ve gone through in the past,” said the R&B singer, who also plans to record a song from Drake.
Monica shared details about her seventh album New Life, due April 10. “New Life is just a representation of me accepting that the things of my past just set me up to be able to embrace what’s for my future,” she told Rap-Up TV. “I’m happy with where I am and I have to embrace my new life to remain that way.”
One collaboration you can expect is with Wale. “Wale is a dear friend of mine, so we’re like brother and sister and he came in and did a record with myself and Rico Love,” revealed Mo. “So I was able to do something different and reach into a different place, singing my falsettos.”
Earlier today, Brandy and Monica reunited onstage to rehearse for the Pre-Grammy Gala honoring Sir Richard Branson. The ladies sounded just as good as they did 14 years ago while performing their Grammy-winning collaboration “The Boy Is Mine” and new song “It All Belongs to Me,” backed by a live band. Whitney Houston even stopped by the Beverly Hilton ballroom to support the girls for their big performance on Saturday. (Excuse the low-quality pics.)
