Solange, Kelis, Jill Scott, & Dawn Richard Celebrate Black Women in Music

It was ladies’ night at the 4th Annual ESSENCE Black Women in Music event on Wednesday. The magazine honored Solange and British soul singer Lianne La Havas at an intimate celebration at Greystone Manor Supperclub in West Hollywood during Grammy week.

R&B’s leading ladies and some fresh faces including Kelis, Jill Scott, Dawn Richard, Tamia, Estelle, Leah LaBelle, and Bridget Kelly toasted their fellow females. Solange entertained with some new material off her EP True and was joined onstage by her collaborator Devonté “Dev” Hynes and Earth Wind & Fire’s Verdine White.

Their male counterparts including Tank, Bilal, and Eric Benét also came out to show their support.

Solange Performs ‘Losing You’ on ‘Le Grand Journal’

Following the release of her acclaimed EP True in November, Solange traveled overseas to share the music with her international fans. During her European promo tour, the 26-year-old singer stopped by French talk show “Le Grand Journal” to perform her single “Losing You.” She was joined by her musical partner Devonté Hynes and band as they jammed along to the funky tune.

While she was in Paris, her big sis Beyoncé was performing at Obama’s inauguration. “I couldn’t be more proud on this day,” tweeted Solo.

She will launch a small U.S. tour in support of the EP on February 5. The next single off the project is slated to be “Lovers in the Parking Lot.”

Solange Lives in Color at ‘Girls’ Premiere

Solange

Solange kept it colorful while attending the Season 2 premiere of HBO’s “Girls” at NYU’s Skirball Center in New York City on Wednesday. The fashion darling turned heads in a geometric-print pantsuit and matching purse as she mingled with the cast and friends including ?uestlove.

The physical edition of her acclaimed EP True is now available and she has booked a few shows for next month including the House of Blues in L.A.

Meanwhile, motherhood has been keeping her busy. “I really tried to resist, but as of this Saturday I truly am a soccer mom,” she tweeted.

Solange has been working with Pharrell and others on a new album for release this year. “I worked with a few different producers on a much different sound and a different project,” she told Rap-Up.com.

Solange Models New Year’s Party Fashions for GQ

Solange is kicking off the new year in style. The “Losing You” singer throws a party in the pages of GQ, modeling some designer threads alongside her hipster pals Grizzly Bear, Dirty Projectors, and Devonté Hynes (Blood Orange), who she collaborated with on her EP True.

In the black-and-white images, Solange keeps it cute in a polka dot skirt by Azzedine Alaïa and Jimmy Choo heels. The fashionable bunch play their instruments as Solo rocks the mic.

Solange Performs ‘Losing You’ on ‘Late Night with Jimmy Fallon’

Solange got into the groove during her appearance on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.” Sporting big hair a la Diana Ross and an oversized green blazer with trousers, the 26-year-old singer was joined by Devonté Hynes and her band as they performed her single “Losing You” off her new EP True.

She and Dev will play a show at New York’s Bowery Ballroom tonight and again next Tuesday.

Exclusive Q&A: Solange Talks ‘True’ EP, New Label, & Next Album

In the four years since her last album Sol-Angel and the Hadley St. Dreams was released, Solange has parted ways with Interscope Records, found love with music video director Alan Ferguson, become an aunt to Blue Ivy, and recorded a brilliant new EP True. The 7-track collection, a collaboration with British composer Devonté “Dev” Hynes (Blood Orange), has been receiving rave reviews since its release last month.
