Teairra Mari sounds the alarm on the saucy “U a Freak,” one of the featured tracks off her DJ Scream-hosted mixtape Now or Never, dropping May 30. The R&B vixen is hanging with her boys in the club when they’re approached by a gold digger. “Some guys they like a good girl/ Some guys they like ‘em bad/ But if they want a freak, you got it in the bag,” sings Teairra on the Hollywood Hot Sauce production. “Shawty you a freak!”
Teairra Mari performed her new single “That’s All Me” for the first time at R&B Live in Hollywood last week. The uptempo record, which samples Puff Daddy and the Family’s “It’s All About the Benjamins,” is one of the songs produced by Rico Love for her Fo’ Reel/Warner Bros. debut.
“Been searching and I finally found someone who can cure all my lonely/ Won’t let you go, no way boy, no how/ I’ma need you as my one and only,” sings Teairra before reprising the famous hook.
“She’s been through a lot,” explained Rico, who’s executive producing the album. “She has a story to tell and I just want to show people that you grow. I think the consumer sometimes doesn’t give the artist the chance to go through what they go through and to grow.”
Before releasing her sophomore album, Teairra will drop her DJ Scream-hosted mixtape Now or Never on May 30.
Teairra Mari is quickly becoming the queen of mixtapes. The R&B dominatrix busts out the chains on the naughty cover for her latest tape Now or Never hosted by DJ Scream. In the tantalizing photo, the seductress dons a leather bra and laced-up pants with a thick long braid. The free download drops over Memorial Day weekend on May 30 featuring the single “Not in Love.”
Rico Love believes in superstars, even if the rest of the music industry doesn’t seem to think they deserve the title. Case in point: Teairra Mari. Last month, the hit songwriter had a studio session with the former Roc-A-Fella Records princess, sparking rumors that he had signed her to his Division 1 imprint. While Rico states that Mari is not one of the artists on his roster, he did reveal that he’s executive producing her sophomore album because “she’s a megastar.”
Teairra Mari looks out for her best interest on “Not in Love,” the first offering from her DJ Scream-hosted mixtape Now or Never, coming in May. Over a powerful mid-tempo instrumental, the R&B vixen wonders what exactly went wrong in her relationship and decides where to point fingers.
“Why do you lie to me?/ When we’re together, it’s not you/ It’s what you try to be/ I knew I gotta be so right/ And I say that you’re tired of me,” sings an emotionally distraught Teairra on the chorus.
Jill Scott brought the stars out at Hollywood nightclub Playhouse on Monday night, debuting songs off her fourth album The Light of the Sun. Draped in a black gown with an avant-garde haircut, the Philly songstress performed for a VIP crowd that included Brandy, JoJo, Swizz Beatz, Teairra Mari, Taraji P. Henson, Reggie Bush, and more, who grooved to her soulful sounds.
