JoJo Covers Aaliyah’s ‘Rock the Boat’

JoJo showed up and showed out during the second stop of her West Coast tour at L.A.’s Tru Hollywood on Thursday. Following a sexified set from Leah LaBelle, the 22-year-old pop powerhouse took fans on a journey through her nearly decade-long career.

During the hour-long set, she belted out her classics “Leave (Get Out)” and “Too Little Too Late” as well as fan favorites including her remix to “Marvin’s Room” and the seductive “Demonstrate.”

She commanded a cover of Sade’s “The Sweetest Taboo” and paid homage to the late Aaliyah with “Rock the Boat,” while the sold-out crowd grooved along.

The tour continues tonight in Oakland before traveling to Sacramento, Portland, and Seattle.

Behind the Video: Chris Brown f/ Aaliyah – ‘They Don’t Know’

Chris Brown

Chris Brown took it to the ‘hood while shooting the video for his new single “They Don’t Know” featuring Aaliyah. A shirtless Breezy stormed 60th Street and Cedar Block in L.A. with his gang and kicked it with some kids in the neighborhood in the behind-the-scenes footage.

He later changed into an Angels jersey as his crew stood behind him holding candles in a dimly-lit warehouse. He put on his director’s hat once again, calling the shots alongside his Riveting Entertainment team.

“[I'm] bringing both worlds together and trying to uplift the poverty side of the community and show them where I’m from,” he said.

The song, which appears on his upcoming album X (July 16), was originally set to drop last week, but it has since been delayed.

“Hope this new single inspires change and unity! Life is a Gift. I love doing what I do. All the little things count!” he tweeted.

Hit the block with Breezy.

Sevyn Streeter Covers Aaliyah’s ‘Come Over’

Sevyn Streeter

Taking on an Aaliyah song is a daunting task. But Sevyn Streeter showed that she was more than ready for the challenge. The 26-year-old singer-songwriter, who is signed to Chris Brown’s CBE/Atlantic Records, performed an acoustic cover of Aaliyah’s 2003 hit “Come Over” for The Warner Sound.

She was inspired after taking a trip to Aaliyah’s high school in Detroit. After her visit, she penned an open letter to the late singer.

“From the bottom of my heart, I want to say THANK YOU & I LOVE YOU because you taught me it’s sexy to be cool and it’s cool to just be you!” wrote Sevyn.
