New Music: Alicia Keys – ‘Die Without You’

Die Without You

Alicia Keys reaches into the vault and unearths a previously unreleased song. The R&B powerhouse covers P.M. Dawn’s hit “I’d Die Without You,” which peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1992.

Alicia recorded her piano-driven version in 1997, but it was just now released via her new website, AK Vault. If you sign up, you will also get access to live performances, rare photos, and more unreleased music.

Following dates in North America, Europe, and Asia, Alicia will launch her “Set the World on Fire” tour in Australia this week with special guest John Legend.

During her trip Down Under, she performed a medley of hits at the ARIA Music Awards. Watch below.

Alicia Keys, Swizz Beatz, & Pharrell Give Back at 10th Annual Black Ball

It was a night of music and charity as Keep a Child Alive celebrated its 10th Annual Black Ball at Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City last night. KCA founder Alicia Keys hosted the black-tie benefit, which was filled with musical performances from Pharrell, Carole King, Roy Ayers, Laura Mvula, and Kathleen Battle.

The Grammy-winning singer posed for a family portrait on the red carpet with her husband Swizz Beatz and their three-year-old son Egypt. Other guests included Pharrell and his new wife Helen Lasichanh, Tamia and her husband Grant Hill, Maxwell, Clive Davis, and Gayle King.

Alicia joined Pharrell on stage to perform his hits including “Get Lucky” and “Blurred Lines,” while her hubby served as DJ for the evening’s Afterglow finale.

“I’m in awe of how @keepachildalive has been saving lives for 10 years!! One of the most important fights of our lives!!” tweeted Alicia.

Keep a Child Alive’s Black Ball has raised over $18.5 million for children and families affected by HIV in Africa and India.

New Music: Alicia Keys – ‘Better You, Better Me’

Better Me, Better You

Alicia Keys provides some words of encouragement on “Better You, Better Me.” The motivational anthem appears on the soundtrack to the drama The Inevitable Defeat of Mister & Pete, which she executive produced.

“I know I’m gonna make it/ I’ve come too far to lose it/ I’ve gotta stay focused and find a better me,” sings Alicia over the drum-patterned beat.

The movie, starring Jennifer Hudson and Jordin Sparks, opens in theaters today.

Maxwell revealed that he and Alicia may be working on a duets album. “We’ve spoken about a couple of different things. We’ve spoken about definitely doing something creative together. But which way that comes together… I’m not sure yet,” Alicia told ESSENCE.

Alicia Keys Heats Up ‘GMA’ Concert Series

While Chris Brown was rocking the plaza on “Today,” Alicia Keys was in Central Park for the “Good Morning America” Summer Concert Series. The Grammy-winning singer debuted a cropped cut while singing her Girl on Fire hits for her hometown fans. One year after releasing the single, she performed the anthemic title track and brought out Maxwell to duet on “Fire We Make.”

She sat down at the piano for “Listen to Your Heart,” closing things out with “No One.”

Alicia recently celebrated her third wedding anniversary. “It’s hot!” said Alicia of her marriage to Swizz Beatz.

She will bring her “Set the World on Fire” tour to Latin America next month and is an executive producer of the upcoming movie The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete, which opens October 11.

Viva Las Vegas. Alicia Keys heads to Sin City in the video for “Tears Always Win,” the Bruno Mars-penned single off her album Girl on Fire.

The R&B diva pulls double duty, playing a showgirl in a show off the strip, and holds down a second gig as a lounge singer. She pours out her emotions on stage nightly, drawing from the struggles of her long-distance relationship. But once the lights dim, she is left lonely, crying to herself in her motel room as she thinks about her man.

On June 25, Alicia will release her CD/DVD VH1 Storytellers featuring 11 performances from the special.
