New Music: Shontelle f/ Asher Roth – ‘DJ Made Me Do It’

Shontelle blames it on the DJ on the aptly-titled “DJ Made Me Do It” from her sophomore album No Gravity, landing next Tuesday. Though the previously leaked version of the track was carried by only the Barbadian songstress, the LP cut features none other than Asher Roth who stops by to add a sweet 16 to the effervescent club jam, originally recorded by duo Nina Sky and penned by The Smeezingtons and Jackie Boyz.

“We just wanted to do something fun with a house feel, and that’s the song that came out,” Nina Sky previously told Rap-Up.com. “We love the record, it’s dope.” Listen below and get in the Friday night mindset.

Video: When Asher Roth Was 17

Before he figured out he loved college, rapper Asher Roth was a self-proclaimed smart ass. The MC is the latest to be featured on MTV’s “When I Was 17,” speaking on being a straight-A student up until 10th grade, his former rap group Suburban Threat, and working jobs at Whole Foods, Red Lobster, and Best Buy, where he would slip his own mixtapes onto the loudspeaker.

“When I was 17, I was pretty clueless,” he says, with his mother Beth and high school friends sharing memories of the young MC. “I was a smart ass. Definitely a smart ass. I was such a wannabe when I was 17.”
