Behind the Video: Big Boi f/ Kelly Rowland – ‘Mama Told Me’

Kelly Rowland and Big Boi

Big Boi takes you behind the scenes of his dreamy video for “Mama Told Me” featuring Kelly Rowland. The Syndrome-directed clip was shot in Los Angeles against a green screen.

“The video is going to be a surreal fantasy land, in which me and the beautiful Kelly Rowland are going to really electrify your mind,” said the OutKast rapper, who described the concept of the ’80s electro funk record. “The song was basically an ode to my mom, just a lot of stuff she taught me coming up that made me the man I am today.”

Kelly rocked a blonde wig and feathery coat in her sexy scenes. “I’m so excited to be working with Big on this project,” said the “ICE” singer. “The whole idea behind ‘Mama Told Me’—the song, the feeling of it, the vibe, and now the video complementing the song just takes it to another level.”

Big Boi’s sophomore album Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors is due December 11 featuring A$AP Rocky, T.I., Ludacris, B.o.B, and more.

Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors

Big Boi’s sophomore album Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors is shaping up to be quite eclectic. After collaborating with Kelly Rowland (“Mama Told Me”), UGK and Big K.R.I.T. (“Gossip”), and Theophilus London (“She Said OK”), the OutKast rapper teams with A$AP Rocky and indie pop duo Phantogram on the funky “Lines,” produced by Organized Noize.

“Like the baby in the manger, I gave my life to Jesus because he could protect me from the dangers in the circle of angels,” raps Big Boi on his religious verse.

The follow-up to his 2010 solo debut Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty is due December 11 featuring even more collabos with T.I., Ludacris, B.o.B, and Little Dragon.

Video: Big Boi f/ Theophilus London – ‘She Said OK’

Big Boi

Big Boi is swimming in women in the risqué video for “She Said OK” featuring Theophilus London. The OutKast member can’t wipe the smile off his face as he lounges around in a house full of honeys.

“The song has a lot of expletive lyrics to it that portray the male in a domineering light,” said director Alexi Papalexopoulos. “In this video, I thought it would be cool to juxtapose that ideology by having the female in a domineering role and our rappers, our men, in a submissive role.”

Big Boi’s sophomore album Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors is due November 13.
