New Music: Ariana Grande f/ Big Sean – ‘Best Mistake’

Big Sean and Ariana Grande

Oh God, Ariana Grande and Big Sean are back at it. Following last year’s hit “Right There,” the frequent collaborators/rumored couple show off their chemistry once again on the Key Wane-produced “Best Mistake,” which was released to iTunes on Monday night.

“‘Cause if the water dries up and the moon stops shining, stars fall, and the world goes blind / Boy, you know I’ll be saving my love for you / ‘Cause you’re the best mistake I’ve ever made,” sings Ariana on the tender R&B jam.

Sean responds by calling his girl a “goddess” and showing love to her mom. “When you start as friends, it’s hard to say you’re never going back / If I’m not the one, then I’m the best mistake you ever had.”

Ariana says the song is her favorite off her sophomore album My Everything, which arrives August 25.

In addition to Sean, the album features The Weeknd, Iggy Azalea, A$AP Ferg, and Childish Gambino.

New Music: Common f/ Big Sean – ‘Diamonds’

Diamonds

Common gets his shine on on “Diamonds,” the latest release from his upcoming album Nobody’s Smiling. The Chicago MC grabs his G.O.O.D. Music brother Big Sean for the feel-good track, which boasts a knocking beat courtesy of No I.D.

“No matter what situation you gotta get to shining,” Common told Rap-Up TV. “I’m talking about shining for today, not waiting for tomorrow. You just gotta embody it now.”

“This record is on some newness for real now. Sean brought his own perspective and made it bounce even more and just automatically when you hear Sean on the chorus, you feel like this song could be in the club, on the radio, but it’s not reaching. I’m kicking an MC verse.”

The two recently recently shot a video in L.A. “It’s a performance-based video, but [the director] is using our images to blend into all these things that represent those shining elements,” said Common.

Nobody’s Smiling drops July 22 featuring appearances from Jhené Aiko, Cocaine 80s, Elijah Blake, and Vince Staples.

Rap-Up TV: Common Makes ‘Majik’ with Jhené Aiko, Talks Kanye’s ‘Royal’ Wedding

Twenty years after the release of his critically-acclaimed album Resurrection, Common reunites with No I.D. on Nobody’s Smiling. During his trip to L.A. this week, the hip-hop veteran sat down with Rap-Up TV to discuss his 10th album, which arrives July 22 via Def Jam.

The concept-driven project, inspired by the violence in Chicago, includes appearances from Cocaine 80s, Elijah Blake, Vince Staples, and Jhené Aiko, who is featured on the No I.D.-produced “Blak Majik.”

“Jhené Aiko is an artist that I truly respect,” said Common. “I think she has a unique voice in music, in culture. When I say unique voice, not only is it her singing voice, but her perspective, who she is, what she offers to the world is something that’s very, very special. It’s a soul to it. It’s a spirit to it.”

“I wanted to team up with her and do a song that was fresh. I called it ‘Blak Majik’ because I say we make something out of nothing,” he explained. “It’s also a feel-good, fun song, but it’s hard, it’s rough. It’s something special about that song too.”

He also worked with his G.O.O.D. Music brother Big Sean on “Diamonds,” for which a video was recently shot in L.A. “‘Diamonds’ for me, talks about shining. You got shine no matter what. No matter what situation you gotta get to shining. I’m talking about shining for today, not waiting for tomorrow. You just gotta embody it now.”

While he didn’t work with Kanye West on this album, he did attend his fairytale wedding. “That was a very special wedding in the way that it was fun,” he said. “I had been to Italy, but never to Florence. It felt very family-oriented, very simple but beautiful, and it felt like they cared about the guests. The way we were treated, it was royal. Everything was simple and beautiful and we had the best time.”
