Birdman, Slim, and Nicki Minaj Honored at BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Awards

It was a big night for the YMCMB family. The hip-hop crew was honored during a star-studded evening at the 2013 BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Awards at the Manhattan Center in New York City on Thursday night.

Bryan “Birdman” Williams and Ronald “Slim” Williams were named BMI Icons. The brothers, who co-founded Cash Money Records in 1991, received an all-star tribute, which included performances by Kevin Rudolf, DJ Khaled, Mystikal, Future, Curren$y, Ace Hood, Busta Rhymes, Turk, Mannie Fresh, and Juvenile, who performed his classic “Back That Azz Up.”

“I dedicate my soul and my life and I wouldn’t be standing here if it wasn’t for Dwayne motherfuckin’ Carter,” said Birdman as Lil Wayne stood behind him. “Once thing when you see with us, you see loyalty.”

Nicki Minaj and Benny Blanco shared the award for Songwriter of the Year, while “Starships” earned Song of the Year honors. Trina paid homage to her fellow femcee by covering “Moment 4 Life.”

Hit-Boy took home Producer of the Year and Machine Gun Kelly won the BMI Social Star Award.

“#bmirnbhiphopawards like 7 awards tonite i think. I llost count. And cash money is being honored. Thx bmi,” tweeted Nicki.

On Set of Birdman, R. Kelly, & Lil Wayne’s ‘We Been On’ Video

R. Kelly and Birdman put their differences aside and reunited on set of the video for Rich Gang’s single “We Been On” earlier this month. The YMCMB crew including Lil Wayne and Mack Maine took over a mansion with some sexy ladies. Birdman and Kellz appeared to be having a good time, sharing a laugh as they watched the monitor.

Ten years after scrapping their Best of Both Worlds joint album, they made up and collaborated on the record for the Rich Gang compilation.

“I was in the studio and we talked man to man,” the Cash Money boss told “Tony Sculfield and the Morning Riot.” “We just kept it moving. Kelly, he do what it do when it comes to this music thing. … I know he never got a chance to work with Wayne, so I wanted to add Wayne to that.”

N.O.R.E., or P.A.P.I. as he’s known these days, rolls out the remix to “She Tried” featuring Lil Wayne, Birdman, and Ja Rule, marking the embattled rapper’s first post-prison release.

“Closet freak, just came out/ Frank Ocean,” raps Rule on his verse.

The song is off the upcoming Good Belt Gang compilation, which will be released independently on N.O.R.E.’s label Good Belt Gang/Militainment.
