Ciara arrives at the MTV Video Music Awards Japan 2009 at the Saitama Super Arena on Saturday. CiCi shimmered while performing “Love Sex Magic” in a skintight bodysuit. The Black Eyed Peas, Beastie Boys, BoA, and Sean Garrett were also among the performers and presenters.

Cee-Lo, BoA, and Fonzworth Bentley

BoA celebrated her U.S. album release with a party on Tuesday at Zune L.A. Teairra Mari, Cee-Lo, Linkin Park’s Mr. Hahn, and Fonzworth Bentley were among those in attendance.

Korean pop star BoA gets a boost of hitmaking power from Sean Garrett on her new single, “I Did It For Love.” The song will appear on her self-titled U.S. debut album, set for worldwide release on March 17. BoA shot a video with director Joseph Kahn (Pussycat Dolls, Britney Spears) last week in Los Angeles.

Other tracks on the album include the Sean Garrett club banger “Energetic;” “Obsessed” (Brian Kennedy); “Eat You Up,” “Look Who’s Talking,” and “Hypnotic Dancefloor” (Henrik Jonback); and “Did Ya” and “Touched” (Bloodshy & Avant).

Korean pop star BoA is gearing up for her U.S. launch beginning with a move to the West Coast. The singer, who recently relocated to Los Angeles, is assembling an all-star team of producers and songwriters for her English-language debut album, scheduled for release next year.

Producers/songwriters Brian Kennedy (Rihanna’s “Disturbia”) and Sean Garrett (Beyoncé’s “Ring the Alarm”) are already on board, while a remix to “Eat You Up” featuring Flo Rida has been recorded and will be released in the coming month. The Bloodshy & Avant-produced first single is available now on iTunes.

BoA celebrated her 22nd birthday last week with a packed event at Los Angeles hotspot Zune LA.

A couple weeks ago, Rap-Up had the pleasure of traveling to Seoul, South Korea to meet Korean pop star BoA (think Britney Spears of Asia, minus the controversy). At 21, BoA is one of the most popular artists in the Far East, selling millions of records throughout Korea and Japan, racking up numerous awards and accolades, and receiving endorsements from Nike, L’Oréal, and Samsung. Up next, BoA has her sights set on conquering the U.S. market.

BoA’s label S.M. Entertainment Group held a press conference titled “Best of Asia, Bring on America!” at the Imperial Palace Hotel in the heart of Seoul where they introduced members of the media to her U.S. team. Among them are Max Gousse, known for his A&R work with Beyoncé and Destiny’s Child, and choreographer Flii Stylz, who’s worked with artists such as Chris Brown and the Black Eyed Peas. Fans waited in the lobby hoping for a peak at their idol, who had injured her arm the night before.

The multilingual star is preparing for her U.S. launch in early 2009 with her first English-language album. Her first single, “Eat You Up,” was produced by Bloodshy & Avant (Britney Spears’ “Toxic”) and will be available on iTunes on October 14th. A remix with Flo Rida is also in the works.

BoA counts Michael Jackson and Justin Timberlake among her favorite U.S. artists. “I learned a lot from his dancing,” she told Rap-Up in reference to Jackson. Her impressive moves can be seen on display in the two music videos for “Eat You Up.” One was helmed by U.S. director Diane Martel (Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera) and the other by Korean director Eun Taek Cha.
