The ladies of Electrik Red put on their high heels and strut back into our lives with their raunchy remix to Jay-Z and Kanye West’s Watch the Throne cut “That’s My Bitch.” Binkie, Lesley, Naomi, and Sarah—who are working on a follow-up to their 2009 debut How to Be a Lady: Volume 1—represent for their fellow females on their sexy and sassy version filled with girl-on-girl action and foreign tongues, plus a reworked beat. Get a boost of their girl power.
Electrik Red shakes it to the ground on “Put Ya Money On It (Africa),” a tribal-influenced banger produced by Midi Mafia. The song is a teaser of what’s to come from the foursome’s sophomore album How to Be a Lady: Volume 2 and not their first single. “This was a nod to our roots,” Binkie tells Rap-Up.com.
Binkie, Naomi, Leslie, and Sarah have been writing with Young Money’s Shanell for the project, on which they explore new territory. “Musically we’re gonna take some more risks and kinda go for an international sound,” Binkie told Amerie when she interviewed her at Rap-Up’s Pre-BET Awards Lounge.
The ladies of Electrik Red turned the sex appeal all the way up on their debut album How to Be a Lady: Volume 1, but they plan to take it down just a notch with their sophomore effort Volume 2. “Some things won’t be as hardcore because we went all the way in and now we’re gonna keep it light and fluffy,” Naomi tells Rap-Up TV. “We’re going to make people get up and dance because that’s what we like to do,” adds Lesley.
Binkie, Naomi, Lesley, and Sarah are working once more with Tricky Stewart and The-Dream, but also bringing some new collaborators into the mix.
The foursome, who are friends with Dream’s wife Christina Milian, also filled us in on how the new mom has adapted to motherhood and how she’s wasted no time getting back into shape. “She looks like she never even had [a baby]!” exclaims Lesley.
After the champagne was poured and the cupcakes were eaten, we handed the mic to Binkie, who took over reporter duties for Rap-Up TV at Rap-Up’s Pre-BET Awards Lounge at The London West Hollywood. The Electrik Red singer interviewed Amerie about her new album Cymatica Vol. 1 and then the tables were turned when Amerie questioned her about Electrik Red’s sophomore effort How to Be a Lady: Volume 2.
Binkie used to be a dancer for Amerie. “She was an amazing, amazing boss,” shared Binkie. “Even when I starved you guys ’cause I said that you missed a step?” joked A. Watch the old friends catch up.
