J. Cole’s Dreamville label celebrates its first release with Last Winter, the debut album from Queens rapper Bas. In addition to appearances from Mack Wilds and K-Quick, Cole guests on two tracks including “Lit” and “My Ni**a Just Made Bail,” a narrative about misfortune, ingratitude, and fleeting redemption.

Cole spits a truthful verse and sings the hook, which borrows from En Vogue and George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic.

“Free your mind and everything will follow,” he sings over the guitar riff.

J. Cole, Big Sean Empower Youth at We Day California

Big Sean and J. Cole helped celebrate change at the first-ever We Day California, the world’s largest youth empowerment event, at Oakland’s Oracle Arena on Wednesday.

The rappers pitched in alongside Seth Rogen, Selena Gomez, Magic Johnson, and Orlando Bloom to inspire 16,000 youth from over 400 schools across California to take action on local and global causes.

Big Sean hit the stage to perform his empowering track “Nothing Is Stopping You” and “Beware” as the students and teachers sang along.

“Karma is real. How you act and treat people will come back to you,” said the Detroit MC, who celebrated his 26th birthday this week.

The festivities closed out with J. Cole, who rocked the house with his uplifting single “Crooked Smile.”

Following the powerful videos for “Power Trip” and “Crooked Smile,” J. Cole makes another movie for his latest Born Sinner single “She Knows” featuring Dirty Projectors’ Amber Coffman and Cults.

In the cinematic clip, a teenager discovers that his mother (played by Rochelle Aytes) is having an affair, while he too is hiding his own secrets from his family.

He steals money from his father and ditches school with his friend to drink, smoke, and skateboard. But he’s caught by the cops and makes a run for home, where he finds his mom cheating on his dad with none other than J. Cole. He returns home, all while keeping his and her secrets to himself.
