T-Pain has some big names lined up for his next T-Mix. While his single “Up Down (Do This All Day)” continues to burn up the airwaves, the Auto-Tune King has revealed the potential guest list for the remix and it includes André 3000 and Rihanna.
He has already had a phone call with the OutKast rapper. “It was amazing just talking to him ’cause that’s like my idol,” T-Pain told Rap-Up TV. “He really set my pace for music and just seeing that he does whatever he wants and don’t care what nobody say, how he dresses and stuff like that, that’s something that you can’t take away from an artist once they become a real artist.”
So he was naturally nervous when they finally spoke. “I was scared to talk to him,” he admitted. “I didn’t know what to do. I was texting him for a while because I felt like if I heard his voice I wouldn’t know what to say. But then I stopped being a pu**y and just fu**ing talked to him. It was a regular god damn conversation.”
He also hopes to grab Rihanna, who was recently seen twerking to the song backstage at her tour.
“I’m thinking about getting Rihanna on it, but if she don’t wanna f**k with it, then you know. Everybody else just seems really excited already,” he said.
While RiRi is not confirmed, B.o.B has already recorded a new verse, and other guests include 2 Chainz and Snoop Dogg. He previewed part of the remix on Instagram.
Big Sean got engaged, released his second album, and unleashed one of the biggest rap records of the year, “Control,” in 2013. As the year comes to a close, Rap-Up TV caught up with the Detroit rapper (and his mascot Rico the Lion) at Power 106′s Cali Christmas to discuss his personal and professional life.
“The boy’s growing up,” said Sean, who is engaged to “Glee” star Naya Rivera.
He revealed that the couple has set a wedding date, but stopped short of saying when they would walk down the aisle.
Plus, he shared his thoughts on Beyoncé’s surprise album and the follow-up to Hall of Fame.
After a busy year, he plans to take some time off for the holidays. In addition to donating toys to children in Detroit, he will spend Christmas with his fiancée and family.
‘Yonce is on everyone’s lips following the surprise release of her record-setting album. Her fans have clearly spoken, sending the album straight to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and downloading it over 1 million times on iTunes worldwide. But what do her peers think?
During Power 106′s Cali Christmas, we asked hip-hop’s biggest stars for their thoughts on Bey’s unprecedented move. Rick Ross called it “genius,” while B.o.B put it more bluntly: “Beyoncé just jizzed all over life.”
“She’s an icon. She’s in that position. Her music is that incredible. The entire plan was executed, no leaks,” said Rozay.
Plus, find out what Big Sean, ScHoolboy Q, Jay Rock, Kid Ink, Sage the Gemini, DJ Mustard, and Ty Dolla $ign had to say about Bey’s big move.
R. Kelly returns to the charts with his 15th top 10 album Black Panties, which debuted at No. 4 this week. In the final part of his interview with Rap-Up TV, the R&B veteran speaks out about some of his famous collaborators and peers including fellow Chicago native Kanye West.
“A lot of people didn’t believe in Kanye, a lot of people didn’t believe in me. He’s a genius in his own right and he’s on top now,” said Kellz, who worked with Yeezus on Cruel Summer‘s “To the World.” “That’s why I know if we got together again on one of these days in that studio, some magic is gonna happen again.”
While he and Jay Z had a fallout after their Best of Both Worlds albums, he is not ruling out another collaboration. “In this business, man, you just never know,” he said. “It happened once, it happened again. You just never know.”
One thing that is certain are more “Trapped in the Closet” episodes. “I got 50-something chapters in the studio just waiting to be shot and then there’s more to come. It’s just one of those forever things, man.”
A “Trapped in the Closet” movie is already being written along with a Broadway show and a book.
When it comes to today’s stars, Kellz has a lot of respect for Chris Brown. “I don’t look at Chris Brown as an R&B guy. He’s a superstar, hands down. It doesn’t matter. He’s music. I don’t put him in a category ’cause he’s got that Michael Jackson thing on him.”
So what does he find himself listening to when he’s riding in the car? “I will listen to Jay Z, I listen to Trey Songz, I listen to Dream, I listen to Ciara, Rihanna, Destiny’s Child, and some Beyoncé stuff.”
Rick Ross has worked with everyone from Jennifer Lopez to Nas, but even Rozay is excited about his upcoming collaboration with Lady Gaga. During Saturday’s Cali Christmas concert in Anaheim, Rap-Up TV spoke with the MMG boss about his remix to the pop superstar’s R. Kelly-assisted single “Do What U Want.”
“For me to get to collab with her, that was a big one for the boss,” said Rozay. “If it’s big for the boss, you know it’s big.”
He didn’t hesitate to say yes when her camp reached out. “[She's] a super-talented artist that loves to express herself to the fullest extreme,” he added. “Shout out to Lady Gaga.”
In addition to Gaga, he has worked with Jay Z on his next single “Devil Is a Lie” off his upcoming album Mastermind. “It’s one of those, if you know how me and Jay do,” said Ross. “We were havin’ a conversation and we were like, I believe it’s our sixth collaboration, and we’re 6-0.”
The project, due in early 2014, also features R&B legend Bobby Womack. “I got in the studio with a few people just to do a lot of different things and it’s gonna be some dope shit,” he said.
From the release of his seventh album M.O. to his role on BET’s “Real Husbands of Hollywood,” Nelly has had a busy year. The St. Louis rapper, who won Single of the Year at the American Music Awards for his collaboration with Florida Georgia Line, was in a celebratory mood while hosting Tostitos Pre-Fiesta Bowl Party at Cabo Cantina on L.A.’s Sunset Strip.
As guests snacked on Tostitos Fajita-flavored Scoops!, Nelly came to the defense of his friend Miley Cyrus, who he collaborated with on “4×4″ off her album Bangerz.
“I love Miley, that’s like a little sister,” he told Rap-Up TV. “I think she’s getting a chance to be herself and find herself. I think sometimes in this business we don’t get the same opportunities as the average person gets to find themselves and [be] allowed to make certain mistakes without being judged.”
He looked back on the past year in music and shared some of his favorite albums. “Drake’s album was dope,” said Nelly, who also singled out Jay Z’s Magna Carta…Holy Grail.
With Christmas around the corner, how does he plan to spend the holidays? “I just want to be home,” said Nelly. “I love having family come over for the holidays. It’s just getting them to leave that’s the problem. Every time I wake up, there’s somebody still there.”
In 2014, look for Nelly in the upcoming drama Reach Me starring Sylvester Stallone plus new music. “We want to get right back into doing another album as soon as possible,” he said.
R. Kelly’s Black Panties may not be an appropriate stocking stuffer for everyone on your Christmas list, but next year, he plans to give a gift that the whole family can enjoy. The R&B icon is working on his first Christmas album, and he gave Rap-Up TV the exclusive details.
“I’m working on a Christmas album right now called the 12 Nights of Christmas and it’s gonna be a lot of lovemaking,” said Kellz. “I come with that bearing gifts.”
He started recording the album last year, but doesn’t plan to release it until 2014. “I started it last Christmas actually, but I don’t believe in just putting out a Christmas album just to sell records. It has to be the next ['This Christmas']. In order to get that and capture that moment, you have to take a couple of Christmases and then you come with it.”
In the meantime, he has contributed a new holiday song called “Christmas I’ll Be Steppin’” to The Best Man Holiday soundtrack.
He also revealed that he has seven or eight albums worth of material waiting to be released including the follow-up to Black Panties. “My next album is halfway written already,” revealed Kellz. “It’s gonna be another 12 Play album. It’s gonna be that type of album because there’s been a lovemaking album drought…and I’ve come to save the day.”
